Kindle questions: 1) I want a device that I can read (mostly) 8.5" x 11" PDFs on without much scrolling (as opposed to page turning) and 2) use to look up prices of things (not just books) on Amazon and other sites. The iPad is great for these except it's too heavy to lug around and a bit too bright to read for hours and I'd prefer no monthly bill for price checking. I'm in Canada if that makes a difference. Is the Kindle appropriate and if so, which one? Also, is it easy to transfer my PDFs too? Can I access Dropbox, for instance? Thanks.

Just bought a Kindle for my 11 year old daughter (haven't given it to her yet). As far as I can tell, there are no parental controls. How should I set it up so I can manage the content she's reading and limit her ability go on a digital spending spree? [more inside]

I want a cheap e-reader for reading longform articles in bed. It must work with Readability or InstaPaper or the like. It does not need to do anything else like games or surfing the intertubes. I have an iPhone for that. Do I want a Kindle?

I am looking to purchase an e-ink reader... Been looking at the Kindle and Nook and I am having trouble deciding. One of my top priorities is that books I purchase not be lost in 3, 5 or 10 years down the road. Which device is most likely to be be future proof? I also have specific uses that I want it to work for such as being able to load PDFs of academic articles/books and access to the library (see extended explanation for more uses). Thanks for your help! [more inside]

Our new Kindle Fire is great, but it tells us we need to update our Flash Player when we want to watch Glee. If I try to DL the new file from the Adobe message, it seems to stall right after it starts. If I go to settings, it shows that Flash is " Always on". I haven't tried any other shows on FOX, but it seems to work fine for NBC stuff. Any Ideas?

I'm considering purchasing a Kindle DX, but the current version is two years old and two hardware generations behind the regular Kindle. Is there functionality in the newer versions of the regular Kindle that I would miss when using the Kindle DX? Is it likely to be replaced or discontinued in the near future? Is there anything else that I should know about before buying a Kindle DX?

I'm going to be taking a few graduate courses online while traveling abroad. I need three textbooks. All three are available for the Kindle through Amazon. Only two are available through Coursemart. I bought a tablet with the hopes I could use it for the texts and avoid carrying three more books with me when traveling. I see two potential problems, that being said my question ultimately has two parts: [more inside]

How do I construct a URL so that it will search Amazon's Kindle store with any text I append to the end of it? I can create one to search all of Amazon (by simply taking the URL I get as the result of an ordinary search and adding words to the end), but I can't find a way of specifying in the URL that it should only search the Kindle store.

I'm having no luck transferring the *complete* web page of 197 responses to this question posed by edge.org
(previously on the blue, I think) to my little friend, a Kindle Keyboard (aka Kindle 3).
I've tried using both Instapaper and Readability, but I think there's code in the webpage to disable a complete scraping. I'm also attempting to use calibre, and if anybody has a recipe that downloads a plain
web page (probably using something called "web2disk") in calibre, I'm all ears.

I'm helping a Chinese magazine put out an electronic English edition. In addition to the Kindle and Apple iVenues, what are other platforms where we should be distributing this? They're hoping to achieve as wide a paid readership as possible without having to pay impossible listing fees. It's a magazine on the Chinese advertising industry. Are there any advertising industry-specific platforms I should be aware of?

When I had the first generation Kindle I had an e-book that was basically an index of free e-books that were in the public domain, and the title of each book was actually a hyper-link that would let you download a copy of said book right to the home screen of the Kindle. Does anyone know where I could get another copy of that book? [more inside]

How should I recommend he set it up so he can:
1. Install a note from him for when she 1st opens the gift/turns it on
2. Help me setup a account for her (she has one for a amazon wishlist)
