My husband wrote a novel a few years back. It has pretty much sat in our house in digital and a print-out form. I will not comment on how the major publishing houses tend to not come searching in your house for The Next Great American Novel... *ahem* But what SHOULD he do?

Kindle formatting gone wild. I've been working on converting a .PDF to a Kindle File (.mobi) and I'm almost there . . .except for one pesky problem.

Please recommend books you enjoyed that are 99 cents or less for the Kindle. Bonus: blogs that cover the same.

I'm in Canada and planning on buying a kindle, and am currently deciding whether I should buy a Kindle 3G, or stick with the Wi-fi only model. I'd like to use it at the cottage, where there is no Internet Access, but (not-so-great) 3G coverage. It seems like there are some restrictions on international kindles that don't exist in the U.S.

Where's the best place online to gather simple reference lists and charts to transfer to my Kindle 2, likely as PDFs or monospaced text? Stuff like US presidents and World Series winners, with enough basic info on each line to fit the screen's width. Is there a site that specifically has stuff like this for the Kindle? Google searches for "Kindle reference "and "Kindle lists" don't really help. Thanks.

I am sending back my 5th defective Kindle 3 because of screen faults--lines, not fully loading, not displaying properly. Amazon never says anything about why, but apologize for my trouble and agree to ship a replacement. But the damn things only last a month sometimes before the same problem happens. It's a nuisance not to have it work, especially when I'm off the grid on a trip or a vacation, and tedious to have to set up and transfer books and periodicals from old to new.
Is there an alternative? Do others have similar problems? The last CR I talked to suggested I buy a thick leather cover (which the sell for $40) but declined to say the lack of a cover was the cause of the problem.
Has anyone used a cover? Is it necessary? Is so why doesn't Amazon provide a cover. It would be cheaper than sending so many replacements.

Buying a Kindle as a gift for a new high school grad going on to college (Yale). To 3G or not to 3G? I would imagine that on campus WiFi is ubiquitous, and so 3G isn't required? Personally, I love my WiFi-only Kindle, but I'm a techy who swims in WiFi waves 24/7. This grad is a non-techy classics major.

I have a tangle of USB chargers at my nightstand for the devices there: a Kindle, an iPad, an iPhone and a Nintendo DS. All of them charge over USB. I want some thing that is nicer looking that uses just one power plug and comes out into 4 or more USB jacks. These exist, and I've tried a few, and none of them have worked with the Kindle or with the iPad (but are fine with the DS and iPhone.) Is there a multi-USB power charger that for sure works with Kindles and iPads?

Kindle3 or Color Nook or Samsung Tab or just sticking with dead trees? I've been reading so many reviews, forums, tech support, askme posts, that my head is spinning and I don't know what to think. The new Kindle and Nook are supposedly vastly better than their predecessors, so I'm hoping mefites with new holiday toys might be able to shed some light.

I have a Kindle 3 (WiFi and 3G model) that's been replaced. The replacement Kindle has all of my Amazon books shown in the "Archived Items" section. How can I get all of these transferred to my new device without downloading them one at a time? The kicker: I have over a hundred free Kindle books that are apparently encrypted, so just copying from the old Kindle to the new Kindle returns an error when I try to read them.

I got a kindle 3 for Christmas and since I'm trying to limit my spending, I'm trying to take advantage of the free books available on Amazon and sites like
Manybooks.net that offers free books in the kindle (awz) format. I also downloaded kindle for pc onto my home laptop. So I downloaded 3 or 4 awz format books from manybook.net onto my kindle for pc no problem. I then connected my kindle 3 to my computer via usb and tried to sync them to no avail. The books that I've downloaded directly to the kindle 3 from Amazon show up as "archived items" on my kindle for pc interface (and did before the attempted sync), but I can not get the books that were loaded directly to the pc onto the kindle 3.
