I'm looking for an e-book reader. I've been pretty wow-ed by the Kindle Paperwhite, but I have some reservations as to whether I should get that (or even get an e-book reader at all)

I am looking to purchase an e-ink reader... Been looking at the Kindle and Nook and I am having trouble deciding. One of my top priorities is that books I purchase not be lost in 3, 5 or 10 years down the road. Which device is most likely to be be future proof? I also have specific uses that I want it to work for such as being able to load PDFs of academic articles/books and access to the library (see extended explanation for more uses). Thanks for your help!

Which of the cheapest e-readers should I choose, especially considering support for/access to lots of free ebooks? I'm currently eyeing most heartily the $79 Kindle and the $50-60 refurbished Kobo, but open to suggestions...

My husband wrote a novel a few years back. It has pretty much sat in our house in digital and a print-out form. I will not comment on how the major publishing houses tend to not come searching in your house for The Next Great American Novel... *ahem* But what SHOULD he do?

Kindle3 or Color Nook or Samsung Tab or just sticking with dead trees? I've been reading so many reviews, forums, tech support, askme posts, that my head is spinning and I don't know what to think. The new Kindle and Nook are supposedly vastly better than their predecessors, so I'm hoping mefites with new holiday toys might be able to shed some light.

I run an elementary school library in an economically diverse urban neighborhood. I want to buy a couple ebook readers so that my kids can see what using them is like (and so I can learn about the issues around lending and using these devices.) Various questions inside.

I'm considering getting an ebook reader, and I'm trying to decide between the Kindle and the Nook. If I get a Kindle, am I leashing myself to the Amazon store? If I get a Nook, could I buy books from other stores or borrow ebooks from my library?

I am in the process of preparing to move to London for the next four years to attend college. As I have sold off a large portion of my beloved library, I don't want to find myself doing the same exercise in 4.5 years time when I return to the US.
Coming late to the ebook reader dance, I ask you which of these two will be the better choice in light of current capabilities (and in addition to the fact that I want a reader to buy and read books, extras do not figure into the equation) - the Kindle or the Nook?

In January, I'm leaving the US for Europe, where I'll be for the next six months, if not more. I want to buy an E-reader, so I can continue to read books in English, and also to save myself from lugging books back and forth. Given the circumstances, seems to me the best choice is to buy a Kindle 2 right now. Am I right?
