We run a summer day camp and are licensed as such (in Massachusetts). How does our licensing change if we want to take eight teenagers on an overnight hike in Western Mass?

This summer, my 7-year-old niece will be staying with my wife and me for two weeks while she goes to a summer school/science camp. Her classes don't start until 1p. I need ideas for short activities and things to do in or near Berkeley, before her classes, from ~9a - 12p.

Jokes. We all know one, maybe even two or three, and there's a good chance they're slightly or completely off-color. But let's say you need to entertain a room of five- to eight-year-olds, and they're expecting a non-stop barrage of hilarity. Anyone have any favorite kids' jokes they'd like to share?

I am looking for an interesting or exciting video that would, in some small way, get Grade 7 kids excited about electronics or science in general. The video will be one part of a talk by Skype I'll be giving to a teacher friend's Grade 7 class. Ideally, the video would be less than 15 minutes and deal with electricity or electronics directly.

My wife wants to know if there are any groups in the New York City area that involve school-age children and bicycle mechanics. The point of the question is we have an old Dyno Mooneyes cruiser bike in great shape with a broken rear fender -- it would actually have to be welded to be reconnected. We'd like to donate it, and she thinks some kids might get a kick out of fixing it up, especially if they're into low-rider or other fancy-pants souped-up types of bike. (It's heavy, so she's not into the idea of shipping it anywhere. We're in Westchester.) Thoughts? Suggestions? Recommendations?

My 11-year-old nephew loves to make (mostly cucumber) sushi, and he also loves cupcakes. While goofing around with him about the Sunday we'll spend together - his parents and sister are excluded from this, it's strictly us - I foolishly said, well, we'll make sushi cupcakes! And I'm being held to it. My execution is not up to my imagination. Please help me realize this!

What's the best technology for a little kid listening to music? My five-year-old loves music. We only have song on iTunes and iPods. He can't read the song titles, and it's too easy for him to mess things up. I'm wishing for a stack of records ("like we had when I was a kid") that he could manage himself. Any advice on creating a self-operable music listening system for kids in this age of digital music? Thanks!

How Can I Encorage My Kids To Be Curious About The World Around Them? It seems like mefites are, in general, interested in learning new things, curious about the world, open to new ideas and that's how I'd like my kids to be. At the very least, I'd like them to be curious about everything from flowers to airplanes and whatever else they might encounter. How can I encourage them? Just encourage questions? Force them to read Wikipedia?
