My preschooler is getting just old enough to have a proper social life (playdates, birthday parties, etc.). I've got some specific questions about the parental etiquette expectations surrounding these kiddie get-togethers.

If you were to throw a British-themed party weekend for a 9, 6, and 4 year old – something both fun and (relatively) educational – what activities would come to mind?

My 11 year old son wants a LOTR themed birthday party. I'm ashamed to admit this, but have never watched all three movies. He's much more knowledgeable about all things LOTR than I.
Help!! We've had a tough year, and I truly want to make this party a blast for him. (One party to rule them all, as he says!)

Birthday party favour ideas for kids under 8? I’m planning a party for my 5-year-old daughter. There will be about 18 girls and boys ranging in age from 4-8. What can I give them as party favours? I like to give one useful item rather than a goody bag filled with trinkets. I don’t want to spend more than $4 per favour. In the past I’ve given jigsaw puzzles, jump ropes, balls, Hot Wheels, and Polly Pockets.

In approximately two weeks, I will be holding a Blanket Fort Goodbye Party on almost the entire top floor of an apartment building. Given the excellent ideas I got from
this previous party thread, I thought I'd ask what you crazy kids: what would you want to see at a blanket fort party?

Where can adults and kids hang out together in New York?
We're visiting New York, where we used to live, for a weekend. We want to arrange an informal gathering so we can see all our friends. Last time we did this, we held it at Bar Veloce in Chelsea, which was perfect. But that was before we, and many of our friends, had small children. What's a pleasant place to meet in Manhattan where 25 or so adults, many accompanied by babies and toddlers, can hang out for a Sunday evening, talk, get drinks and something to eat, and not worry that our kids are going to destroy something?

Kids themed 21st birthday party: My 21st is in two weeks and I'm having a kids themed party, so it's back to the days of fairy bread and balloons. I need ideas. So far I'm using a projector to set up a big screen game of Super Mario Brothers, I'm having a pin the tail on the donkey game where you win a shot if you get it even remotely right, and I've downloaded a bunch of theme songs from kids shows back then. Any more ideas?
