I woke up in the middle of the night, five days ago, with a searing pain in my bladder. Over the next day this developed into stabbing pains in urethra, at the entrance and in the line leading toward my bladder. Stabbing pains in my kidney area followed and are now a dull constant ache. I also feel like I'm being stabbed in my urethra, constantly, and my bladder area and kidney are very tender to touch and ache constantly. UTI, right? Apparently not. More inside. [more inside]

I might be called upon to donate a kidney very soon to a family member. This may sound dim, but in my early-mid 30s, will I still be healthy enough to have a first baby?

Will drinking 4 cups a day of green tea, and taking calcium supplements with it give me kidney stones? From what I understand, most kidney stones are caused by oxalate (some in green tea) and calcium combining. But there is much confusion on the nets on this topic.

Starting to freak out about whether a UTI has spread to my kidney, and whether the antibiotics I have are enough. Supposed to be on a LONG plane ride in a day to a place where I don't speak the language and may not get good medical care. Help please? [more inside]

Can a kidney be un- or re-donated?
A colleague donated a kidney to a friend today. If the friend's body rejects the kidney, can it be put back into its original owner? I'm guessing no, but I'm wondering why not.

Fibroid tumours. I just went for a kidney scan, and while I was there the doctor told me he saw I have a fibroid tumour and need to have it checked out by a gynecologist. I have an appointment for a week from today, but in the meantime, if any of the ladies of metafilter have experience with this kind of tumour, it would be really comforting to me to get some first-hand accounts. I am thinking about donating my kidney but I'm about 100lbs overweight and probably a doctor would say I'm closer to 150lbs overweight. Does anyone know how fit one has to be (should be...) to donate a kindey and 1) the kidney be healthy, and 2) for me to remain healthy? Other thoughts to consider for being overweight and interested in being a donor would be appreciated too.
