Some time ago an acquaintance gave me a large vase that she said was made by a famous art glass maker in Louisville, Kentucky. I can't remember the name of the maker, but got the sense from her that it was a company that would be well-known among aficionados of art glass, as much as, say, Viking is. However, Google searches haven't produced anything definitive. Does anyone know what this company might be?

We're planning about a week long road trip from Louisville to Mammoth Cave, south towards Nashville, east towards Great Smokies and ending up in Asheville NC. Looking for your suggestions for places to eat, places to stay, things to do along the way. [more inside]

We have 7-10 days for a road trip (leaving from Chicago in a couple days) and are thinking of exploring the South by car. Where should we stop, and what should we see? Thoughts we've had include driving towards Florida or Savannah and hitting Cattanooga, Asheville, Bowling Green, and/or Nashville. We will have one dog with us, so bonus points for State Parks or Forests where we can hike with her, but we'd like to see some towns or cities, too. Thank you, hive mind!

I'm looking to do a mini road trip to Nashville from Aug. 2nd-4th and drive through Mammoth Cave on my way home on the 4th. I want to maximize awesomeness while minimizing cost. I'm pretty open in terms of ideas, but I like museums, music, and antiques, and I plan to at least do one of the tours of Mammoth Cave when I get there. I will have camping equipment with me but I'd prefer to have shower facilities while in Nashville. Any suggestions? Things to see? Free attractions? Ways to save money (especially on food)? Favorite Mammoth Cave tour?

I'll be doing a bit of driving in Eastern Kentucky and into West Virginia. I've got the destinations, and have had Google cook up some routes, but I've seen routers make some pretty bad assumptions about back-woods roads. I'm on a fairly tight schedule, so the fewer surprises the better--I'd just as soon stick to major roads unless there's a guaranteed time savings. I'm coming from near Cincinnati to Betsy Layne, KY (near Pikeville) and going from there to Oak Hill, WV (near Beckley). [more inside]

I was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, and am flying back from New York for a short visit for the first time in a while. I've recently become really interested in Southern housewares and goods, like Jack Rudy Cocktail Co.
, and I was wondering - what things can I only
get in the South that I should bring back North?

My boyfriend and I are planning to take a two night trip to either Louisville, Kentucky, or Chattanooga, Tennessee, during the first week of January (after January 1). What are arguments for/against either place, and which is likely to have cheaper accommodations? And what are your favorite things to do in these cities? [more inside]

So I'd like to know if homes built in the USA in 1958 commonly had wood floors and it is possible this owner added the carpet later. If true we'd have hope that the wood below has possibility for restoration. [more inside]

Wife and I will be headed to Louisville, Kentucky this weekend for a quick getaway. We'll be spending Saturday afternoon at Churchill Downs taking in some racing. We've never been to a horse race before. We're not gamblers, but we're willing to wager a few bucks in the name of fun. What is the best way for two horse racing newbies to have a great day at the track?

will attempt to win her 20th and final race at Churchill Downs. I am not a gambler, but would like to place some bets to make watching the race more fun. Of course, I wouldn't mind winning some money, too. I'm hoping someone here can give me some strategy tips based on these
odds. A friend has suggested placing 12 exacta bets on Zenyatta to win and each of the others to place. The assumption I'm making is that she will indeed win.

I live in Atlanta and take a couple of road trips a year by myself to clear my mind and write. I’m married and not looking for ‘a good time’ in that sense. Mostly I want to enjoy a good drive and a lively public space. A good local bookstore is a plus, but I’ll need a good coffee shop and some entertaining watering holes where I can sit in the corner and write. Parks and green spaces are also a plus.
Also, as an Atlantan I really drive too much and would rather not do a lot of driving when I get to my destination. I’ve tried and enjoyed Asheville, NC for the past year or two, but I’m looking to change it up and give Louisville a try. Is Louisville what I’m looking for, and if so, where should I stay?

Road trip! My mom and I are driving from Eastern Long Island to Stillwater, OK, via (tentatively) Harrisburg PA, Charleston WV, Mammoth Cave State Park KY, St Louis MO, and Bartlesville OK. I'd like suggestions of things we might do along the way, as this breaks down to only about 5 hours of driving per day, so we have some touristy time! [more inside]

NYC to Berea, Kentucky. Best ways to travel back and forth, about 6 roundtrips over the course of 3 months? Low cost is very important, but not quite so important that I could stomach the 19-hour Greyhound ride every time. Can't find any budget airlines that go NYC-Lexington. Some cheap flights BWI-LEX and some NYC-Dayton -- maybe those are my best choice even with the added time/cost on bus legs? Finally, anybody know approx. taxi cost Lex-Berea (for times when Greyhound schedule doesn't fit with my plane)? Thanks!

How do I locate my great uncle's school records? He was born in 1890 in Northern Kentucky, just outside of New Castle. I'm not even sure what schools were around back then, and I know that would be a good start.
