Let's say a friend of mine was on telephone stand by jury duty in New York, and forgot to call Wednesday evening to see if she needed to report for Thursday. Cached through google search, are the ranges that were supposed to report Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, but not for Thursday August 21, 2008. How can this friend check to see if she was supposed to report yesterday? [more inside]

Jury Duty: I want to fulfill my civic duty and don't want to shirk but...4 week federal jury trial? $40 a day? What gives? I'm self employed and care for my child 2 days a week so my wife can work. Should I ask for a hardship exemption, or is that shirking? [more inside]

A few years ago, I ignored a summons to jury duty (U.S. District Court, if that's relevant). I didn't intentionally shirk my civic duty. I just completely forgot to deal with it promptly. Am I in a lot of trouble? What's the best way to handle this responsibly and avoid any unpleasant surprises?

So, watching Law & Order: Trial By Jury tonight, it inspired a question. In the show, the jury had to watch a videotape of a murder. My question is, if a juror is traumatized enough by something like that to need therapy, will the courts pay for the therapy, if the juror doesn't have insurance? [more inside]

Ok in regard to this thread, how do they get your name for jury duty? I thought it was when you registered to vote. Others say when you register for SS or start filing income taxes. I seriously doubt SS as it only applies to certain people. Any info on where the man gets our names? [more inside]
