Finished jury duty, how can I learn more about a defense's validity?

I was recently on a jury, and how the defense fought the charge left me with a lot of unanswered questions. I'm dying to learn more, not about that specific case, but about how valid the defense's arguments really were raising valid doubts and how much they were smoke screens trying to confuse and intellectually intimidate the jury. (The two feel very different in my mind, but I'm well aware I may just be being naive.) [more inside]

Does jury dury service transfer across state lines?

My friend served jury duty in NY state and was told that he's now exempt from jury duty for 8 years in any state or federal court. I served jury duty less than 8 years ago in NY, moved to CT, and have now been called in CT. Can anyone point me to documentation of this law online so I can get out of serving in CT?

A jury summons mess.

I was away for a bit, on vacation. During that time, a federal jury summons came in the mail (with no postmark date). I got it today, when I got my big pile of mail that arrived while I was gone. It wants me to report on Monday, July 27th. Monday, July 27th is my first day in a new role/new department at work and I cannot miss it. [more inside]

Consequences for skipping jury service in US District Court?

I have been called as a potential juror in a U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, 200 miles and four hours south. I'm on the very far north edge of a federal court zone. For two weeks I have to call at 7pm and be ready to appear in L.A. at 11am the next day. This is my second notice. I filled out a questionnaire for the first, and now it appears that my request for an excuse has been denied. I am a responsible person - I've appeared many times for local jury duty - but I'm also practical. Arranging travel to L.A. on less than eight hours AND being on call to do so for two weeks is a huge disruption in my life. What are the consequences if I just ignore this?

What should I do about skipped jury duty?

A few years ago, I ignored a summons to jury duty (U.S. District Court, if that's relevant). I didn't intentionally shirk my civic duty. I just completely forgot to deal with it promptly. Am I in a lot of trouble? What's the best way to handle this responsibly and avoid any unpleasant surprises?

So, watching Law & Order: Trial By Jury tonight, it inspired a question. In the show, the jury had to watch a videotape of a murder. My question is, if a juror is traumatized enough by something like that to need therapy, will the courts pay for the therapy, if the juror doesn't have insurance? [more inside]

When/how do they get your name for jury duty?

Ok in regard to this thread, how do they get your name for jury duty? I thought it was when you registered to vote. Others say when you register for SS or start filing income taxes. I seriously doubt SS as it only applies to certain people. Any info on where the man gets our names? [more inside]
