How to lock a music players playback controls?

Is there a way (using Windows) to lock a media player (iTunes, Winamp, or any out there) but still allow users to queue songs? Before you ask, yes I've searched and searched but I can't find a simple solution to my problem. Basically I want people at my party this weekend to be able to queue up music into a play list without letting them touch the play/pauses/next track/etc...

My plan is to incorporate an Eye-Fi to stream pictures taken around the party onto a projection screen while incorporating a "request-a-song" music feature on the laptop. I got both bases covered already if I just wanted to display pictures and play whatever music I tell it to, but I want to be able to lock the playback controls so people will have to wait patiently for their song to play.

I hope this makes sense to everyone :X.

How do I make a sweet web-enabled office jukebox?

What's the best way to create an office jukebox with a web interface? I think it would be awesome to have an office jukebox that we could fill with everyone's favorite music and control through a web interface.

We have a large, cavernous office and a staff who loves discovering new music. Right now we take turns plugging in our iPods but we would love for there to be a way to create a console that we could administer from our desks.

Has anyone ever attempted to create such a thing for their office?

We have PC and Mac laptops we could devote to the tasks. I don't want to use desktops because I think it would use too much power unnecessarily.

Ideally, the system:
- would be visible over our internal work network so you could deposit songs into its library
- would allow users to log in and put items in a queue to be played.
- identify the user who had chosen the song to be played.
- would be able to power down automatically after close of business.
- would be able to power up by Wake-on-Lan.
- would have a system that created user play scarcity, e.g. someone has a limited amount of "jukebox quarters" weekly.
- would allow users to spend additional quarters to skip ahead in the queue.

Does anyone know how to build this thing?

(We will share our results with the world at large when we figure it out.)

Building a listening area on a blog post

Need an easy-to-use, visually elegant mp3 jukebox thingie for a website Got a large collection of mp3 files that I'd like to allow people to listen to from a single blog post (Wordpress). So I'm looking for a nice jukebox-ish app that I can embed, allows users to scroll through the choices, click on the one they want to listen to, it starts playing in-line.

I'm not having any luck finding a WP plugin. And I don't want to just list a bunch of links to the mp3 files. Any great, elegant, quick way to make a "listening area" on a single blog post?

MP3 Jukebox in my living room?

Does anyone have suggestions for turning a giant TV and stereo into a cover-art browsable jukebox with interactive playlisting? I basically want a giant video ipod in my living room with "on the go" playlisting. Ok, so I have a big party at the end of the month, and I just finished obsessing over my digital music collection. Everything now has cover art. What I'd like to be able to do, is have my tv (already connected to my stereo) display cover art for the currently playing track, as well as provide an interface with which people can arrange the currently playing playlist.

I looked into AppleTV, and it doesn't seem to handle the interactive part. Basically, I have wifi and ethernet to the liiving room. I have a server with the music exported via nfs. All the artwork should be embedded in the files themselves.

I'm a software engineer and the server runs gentoo linux, so I'm comfortable with really involved stuff. I'm also willing to spend some cash for a more elegant solution, as this will get a lot of use post party.

Need a simple, good online music player

Can anybody recommend a free, online music player I can add to my website? I am building a website for a client, who wants a music player on the site. We have all the music we want to play - he is a musician, so the music is all his and we have all the rights to play this music. But we are looking for a simple, free player.

Can anybody recommend a free, online music player service? (Or a piece of self-hosted software would work, too.) We want to upload our MP3s (either to our server or someone else's, doesn't matter), load them into the player, and let users play songs. (Preferably we want this player in a pop-up link from our site.)

Can anybody recommend a good service or piece of software for this?

How do I, as an individual, obtain permission to play commercial CDs in a makeshift jukebox? Let's say I wanted to build a computer jukebox for residents of a managed care facilities (ie: a commercial venue). I might have some 30 to 40 CDs of music people of their era prefer. I own the CDs ... what exactly do I have to do to get permission to legally play these CDs? I'm assuming I'd be paying royalties, though I'm not quite sure how it would work (or if it would be cost effective). Who do I approach? Would I need to keep logs?

Anything else you can add that I haven't thought of would be muchly appreciated.

Home MP3 jukebox

I'm looking for recommendations for a home MP3 player. I want something with much larger capacity than an iPod (preferably using standard 3.5" drives), and am happy for it to be physically quite a bit bigger than an iPod. It needs to be quieter and less power-hungry than a standard PC. If it had a sensible UI and a remote control, that would be good too. Hopefully, it would be cheaper than either an iPod or a PC, too. [Currently, an old linux box does this job, but it is too noisy for my small apartment, and the interface is too clunky.]

MusicCasting a net

Where can I sell a Yamaha MusicCast MCX-1000, a digital jukebox / music streaming device that came out two years too early to be useful? A couple years ago some friends of mine purchased a Yamaha MusicCast MCX-1000 digital music server. It makes MP3s of your CDs within the device and lets you put terminals around your house which connect to the main thing wirelessly so you can listen in different zones. It sounds great in theory, but it has some serious limitations: it connects to the network to download CDDB information, but it can't share songs over the network from a computer / import songs from a computer / export the mp3s it rips to a computer/iPod/other device (they're in some proprietary 'not actually mp3' format).

My friends weren't quite aware of these limitations and now want to get a Sonos system that does everything they want and connects to their PC. The question is, what to do with the MusicCast? The thing was ridiculously expensive, so they'd like to recoup something from it. Given its limitations, most savvy consumers (who might buy something from a listing in an audio/hifi forum) wouldn't want it. eBay's probably not the best place because I don't think the clueless audiophiles who have the money to spend on a MusicCast would shop there (and I haven't seen many MusicCast-related items in completed listings searches).

They do have two MCX-A10 receivers that work with the newer MCX-2000, Yamaha's current offering which is slightly more useful than than the MCX-1000 (it can stream music from a computer, but anything you rip into it still can't be used by anything else), so they might do better to sell them seperately from the main system. But where can we target the sort of people who want an all-in-one, no computer necessary system like this? We're in the UK and would rather not have to ship it internationally. Any ideas?

What's a good PHP script to make a "jukebox" to play/stream MP3s on a web site? I've got a specialty blog, and I'd like to add a "jukebox" feature to it (to play old-time radio broadcasts). Would like something easy to use on my end (i.e. drop mp3s into a folder), and it be fairly robust on the user end - volume/play/pause controls, some kind of cool GUI, etc. Bonus points if it converts a generic MP3 into a streaming one to reduce bandwidth issues (and to prevent people from just downloading all of the mp3s) ...

Best Jukebox bars in northern NJ

Where are the best jukeboxes in northern New Jersey?
I'm looking for bars with jukeboxes containing imaginative and fresh music selections. From what I've seen most have the usual stale offerings: Billy Joel, Bob Seeger, Meat Loaf, Bob Marley, Van Morrison etc etc., music that Lite FM continually churns out. I' mlooking for new alt rock, americana, hip-hop, r&b and world music. Am I being unreasonable for looking for such places in the suburbs? Or do a few exist off the beaten track?

Can you recommend "Virtual DJ" application?

I'm looking for an application (or plugin) that will act as a "Virtual DJ" (complete with cross-fading and beat-matching) with no input from me. I have approximately 200 MP3 tracks that I'd like to have played on my computer at a party. Because it is a party, I'm going to want to leave it completely unattended and let it do it's thing.

As such, I'm ideally looking for an application (or plugin) that will take a list of songs that I give it, re-arrange them automatically (if necessary) and then play them one by one mixing them together as seamlessly as possible.

I appreciate that I could just use a bog-standard crossfade plugin, however I know that the results from those things range from the mediocre to the aweful when mixing certain tracks. As such, I'm looking for something slightly more intelligent.

I've looked on Google, but all of the applications appear to be geared around helping/allowing people to DJ, I have no intention of touching the computer so want something as automatic as possible. I know that this will mean poorer results and is no substitute for a human - but so be it.

I'm running Windows and I'm willing to look at commercial applications.

Free jukebox software that queues music?

I need a Windows-based, FREE MP3 player that will queue music, like a real jukebox. I've used Windows Media Player, Musicmatch Jukebox, WinAmp, iTunes, and bunches of others, but none of them will do what seems like a really basic and obvious task. When I'm currently playing a song, and select another song, they *all* interrupt the current song and start playing the new one, which I don't want. I want to finish listening to the current song, and merely put new songs in line, like real jukeboxes do.

I know that most of these programs have some ability to do this - iTunes has an overly complex and bloated "party mix" thing, and in Media Player you can drag-and-drop songs into the playlist, but I don't want either or those. I want to merely select a song by double-clicking and have it added to a queue.

There's a commercial product - Virtual Music Jukebox - which does what I want, but I don't really want to pay if there's a free version out there.

Archos Jukebox Recorder: Ideal for student musician?

I'm looking for a good recording device, and the Archos Jukebox Recorders have been suggested to me as an ideal device. I'm an opera major studying at a conservatory, and need a device to record my lessons and coachings. I don't want to spend much money. Is Archos the way to go? Are there any significant differences between the units or can I just get an old 10GB from ebay for $100? I'm currently using a Sharp Mt-877 minidisc recorder with a Sound Professionals single point stereo mic (one of those T-mics from minidisco.com), and I'd like to get something that makes transferring recordings to my computer for editing(Mac, running Tiger) or to my iPod relatively easy, with the same or better sound quality than my minidisc.

Multimedia Jukebox with Web Interface?

Does anyone have any reccomendations for multimedia jukebox software with a web interface? I want to connect a linux box to my home stereo and be able to control it from a web interface hosted on that box. I want it not to require X to keep it thin, so XMMS plus a plugin won't work. The ability to rescan watch folders from the interface because I'll be moving my music collection from work back to home often.

Am I stuck rolling my own or does someone know of a magical piece of software that will make my life complete? Freshmeat and Sourceforge provided lukewarm results.
