Academics, Researchers, and Writers: What software do you use for creating the graphics that accompany your journal (or mainstream) article submissions? I know this will be different depending on the topic, field, and journal. I'm trying to get a feel for the full range of choices.

I'd like to experiment with microblogging as a way of keeping a private diary/journal (stored on my HD, not a server). Does anyone know of any (Windows) software for this purpose, please? I am thinking of a little app like the Digsby Twitter interface that lies in my system tray and allows me to type short posts which it then automatically times and dates and appends to a text file or Word doc on my HD. I know I could do this manually with a text editor or word processor, but I think the microblogging format would provide more of a stimulus.

Can anyone recommend any brutally honest, diary/journal blogs? Ones where people talk about most aspects of their lives: emotions, friendships, relationships, sex, hobbies, politics. Ones where the posts are so private that they can only be kept secret, or shared with strangers.

I've seen a couple people recently with very nice fairly stiff leather journal covers, maybe a little smaller than 8 1/2 by 11, that hold a smaller replaceable floppy journal inside. I want one. I've looked around some, but all I can find are the cheap mass-produced ones. Does the hive mind have a lead on where to get a good-quality leather cover online or in the SF bay area?

People buy me a lot of nice journals, including Moleskines. The problem is that all the writing I do, journaling and stories and etc, is written on 8.5x11 loose leaf paper and then folded into this leather sleeve thing that I use. I need suggestions for ways to use these other journals, sitting so lonely there in their dark drawer.

I want to start a log of films I see, to include director, lead actors, genre, date viewed, etc, and my own review of the flick. This is for my own use only. Can anyone offer a recommendation for software to use/how to set it up in something standard like Excel so that I can search on any category but still have somewhat extensive space for my eloquent prose? Might also extend its use to books and music. I'm a mac user.
Thanks!

Is there a free website when I can view and print articles from old copies of the journal of "The American Philosophical Society?"
Even my local public library doesn't offer it for free in that they charge for printing each page and I have some very long articles from the 1800's I need to print. No emailing to another location is allowed.
Thank you.

Howdy Hive-
Back in the 80's I used to write in journals that were made of recycled paper. I'm trying to locate them (or something similar) again, and having no luck. The paper was gray, a bit rough & raggedy, and very, very soft. It was bound as a hardcover book, with a simple stamp as a decoration (one said 'art', another said 'dream'). The only drawback was that the paper absorbed a lot of ink, so it was necessary to write in ballpoint pen (or risk draining a lot of sharpie markers). Even if it's not the exact same journal, I would love your suggestions for something similar. I haven't found another blank book yet that is as satisfying.
Thanks in advance, y'all!
