God as a measure of human pain?

"God is a concept by which we measure our pain." What did John Lennon mean by this? In the song "God" on the Plastic Ono Band album, Lennon lists the things and people he no longer believes in and concludes dramatically with the above statement (twice). What did he mean by this? I have always believed that a person's need for God is correlated with the amount of inner turmoil they are experiencing due to traumatic events or upbringing. Is there a philosophy, science or religion which embodies this concept? And had Lennon thought this through in depth or was he just jumping on the Dylan bandwagon when Dylan proclaimed "Don't follow leaders. Watch your parking meters" ?

McCartney

Why do people dislike Paul McCartney so much? Most of the hits were written by him, the much acclaimed albums were mostly his doing, and he had the better singing voice. Why is Lennon praised and McCartney dissed so much?

Best Beatles Bio

What is the "best" Beatles biography in publication? Definition of "best" inside. I've been thinking of buying the new Beatles biography by Bob Spitz, but there is quite a deal of controversy regarding its accuracy. I'll probably read it anyway, but what book is considered the definitive or best bio of The Beatles to date? By "best" I mean not just accurate but also eminently readable, entertaining and comprehensive. I'm sure there are plenty of books revered for their encylopedic knowledge and accuracy of every minute detail but that also read like an accounting ledger. I'm not after that.

Whats this writing near the label of my 45

I picked up an old John Lennon / Yoko Ono 45 at a yard sale, and on the vinyl itself, written in the plastic, is "one world, one people". It looks hand written, and there are a bunch of numbers near it. What gives?
