My first time moving to a new state. Help me prepare!

I've never really moved before. I went off to college, sure, but that was in the same state, just a few hours from home. This is a different ballgame. I'll be leaving Iowa to live somewhere else for an extended period of time and this will be a first. I could use some help in preparing for this and advice on what to do when I get there. How do I apply for a job for two months from now?

I'm relocating in 2 months and currently doing the job search. How do I handle current job postings which do not specify a start date: apply anyway and state my arrival time (or don't mention it)? Is there anything I can do in the application/interview process to increase the likelihood that an employer might hold a position for me, or how do I broach the subject? Is it worth applying to a job that has a start date earlier than my arrival "just in case"? [more inside]

Too soon to apply for a job? Or should I just go for it?

Applying for university administrative jobs in another city that I will be moving to in 4 months. Is it worth it to begin applying for positions I'm qualified for when I'm 4 months out from moving there? Could it hurt my chances of landing a job at the new university in any way? [more inside]
