I'm applying for post-grad school jobs. One of them, a bit of a long shot, is within my close-knit current office. Others are elsewhere in and outside of the organization. Difficulty: my two best references are not only in this office but running the first job search. How in the world do I manage this? [more inside]

I am interviewing for a network engineering position. They like me and my knowledge base. However, I have never worked with the actual model of equipment they use. I have experience with similar products and I am a very quick learner. They would like me to come in for a day to see how I work and how quickly I can pick up things. What is a good way to show them how quickly I learn? [more inside]

My girlfriend has an interview for a job later this week. She is currently employed, but this new job offers much more than what she is currently receiving. She really wants to use her current job on her resume since it is directly related to the field and good experience, but the possibility of losing her current job if the prospective employer contacts them is a risk she does not want to take.
Anyone have some recommendations on how this situation should be handled? [more inside]
