I'm a 33 year old male who has been interested in being a Financial Advisor since the 7th grade. I've an undergraduate degree in Finance with a CIS option and am currently 1/2 way through my MBA. I really want to become a FA but I'm a little nervous about starting from scratch, selling to my friends and family, and walking around town knocking on doors to sell although I've been told that I am a very likeable person who would be great at this.

Hope me! I have a Wordpress foodie blog and I have a kitchenware retail website. I want to take the blog and export it to my website. Somehow. It gets a little more complicated and I'd really appreciate some help walking me through the various procedures. Wise advise on blog organisation would also be deeply appreciated. Apologies in advance for the longwinded rambling to follow.

I work at a community college in the financial aid office. Next week, I have an internal interview for the Secretary to the Governing Board. My interview committee will be made up of executives from the college. While I generally feel confident in interviews I always struggle coming up with questions for the interviewers. Can you help me come up with questions for the interviewers that are “executive level” and that might help demonstrate my dedication to the college?

I’ve been at my job about three months, and while my performance is great and my colleagues and I get along well, I just don’t click with the overall culture. An offer has come my way from another company, and I’m thinking about switching jobs. Quitting any job is hard enough; how do I have this conversation with my boss without feeling (or making him feel) like my resignation is screwing over him and the organization after they’ve invested in me?

How should I go about finding internships at start-ups? I am getting a master's in Accounting (my BA is in English and I also have an MA in Writing). I'm 25 and, not wanting the make the same mistake as last time, I know I need to do some internships and get experience. I'm really interested in start-ups, I might even start my own company one day, but right now I want to get involved in one.

UK (and especially London) folks, where should a returning US labor union staffer work in the UK? I’ll be returning to London (location non-negotiable) early next year after almost ten years in the US. I left the UK soon after I graduated (I’ve never held a career job there), and I’ve worked as a labor union staffer in the US, working my way up to positions with a good deal of strategic and management responsibility, but I'm absolutely open to a change...

I met my girlfriend in London about 2 years ago. Since then, we have (temporarily) gone our separate ways due to visa issues mainly. Now she is back in Japan and she has had several crappy jobs. I want to help her get a job teaching English/Japanese online and I was wondering if anyone knew of any good ways of promoting her. Her English is very good, she lived in London for 12 years and only hung out with native speakers. I have encouraged her to look for a similar job teaching/translating in Japan and we'll see how that goes but I just need some ideas to help her get as many students as possible. Thanks.

[Nonprofit Filter] We're investigating options to shop out the major financial needs of our nonprofit organization. If we do this, what tasks should be kept in house and (if we no longer have a dedicated finance person) who should do them? We are considering this option, but have a fair number of questions about how other small NGOs manage their financial administration. Is yours in-house, contracted, a combination of both? What are the benefits/challenges? Lots of questions and would appreciate experienced feedback!

My girlfriend's finishing grad school, and is beginning her job hunt. How can I best help her cope with the stress? She's smart, capable and graduating from a top 5 school, but she's generally negative and I think her fear of being unemployed is heightened by the fact that she had an unsuccessful job search at the end of her BSc, and by the pressure put on her by her family. Plus, since I've got a job in her desired field, it makes it harder for me to relate to what she's going through.

More non-fiction please! As a strange antidote to having to read a lot of dry academic articles, I enjoy pleasurable non-fiction writing about jobs and work. Books I've liked in the past include May Roach (
Stiff); Atul Gawande (
Complications, Better); Barbara Ehrenreich (
Nickeled and Dimed); and Tracy Kidder (
House, Among Schoolchildren). I'd like recommendations for more non-fiction along those lines.

I've found what bothers me about my office job -- my position and what I do is utterly useless. What I do has absolutely no effect on anyone, nor does it increase my employer's profit or success in any measurable way. I've realized this is what leaves me absolutely drained at the end of the work day, though I've spent the day sitting at a desk. It also makes me dread going to work in the morning because I could not feel more like a cog in the machine. What are some jobs where I can actually feel useful or needed, or feel like I'm contributing to society?

Hivemind, can you please help?

My workplace seems to deal with storage in a way that is unsafe: we have boxes stacked to the ceiling (one box on top of the other, not layered like brick) along several walls and shallow crates and flat boxes stacked to the ceiling in an area at least 6' on each side without any sort of support other than the containers everything is in. Is this normal for stockrooms and warehouses? If not, how can I do something about it?
