I'm trying to solve a mystery. Let's say it's a friend of a friend..
He's got some.. kind of.. tech certification and for several months has reported to her (while borrowing money from her) that he's been interviewing for jobs. He reports the same story each time.. several times a month.. that he interviews, interviews with the HR department, then their tech manager and sometimes a CEO gets throw in there... and then without fail, nobody calls him back once he interviews at a certain level.
She's not remotely tech savvy and continues to loan him money.
Is the market really so strained that this is possible? Does this happen a lot?
She's cut him off, but.. curious.

I am searching for a new job in software and one particular recruiting agency is contacting me by phone to a degree that I consider harassment. I am interested in one of the jobs they're pitching, though. What's the best way to handle it? [more inside]

If you were looking for tech jobs in the US outside of the usual suspect places of California, New York City and Boston area, where would you start looking? I'm trying to find promising tech hubs for software development / digital media jobs with great quality of life outside of the aforementioned places.

How should I go about finding internships at start-ups? I am getting a master's in Accounting (my BA is in English and I also have an MA in Writing). I'm 25 and, not wanting the make the same mistake as last time, I know I need to do some internships and get experience. I'm really interested in start-ups, I might even start my own company one day, but right now I want to get involved in one. [more inside]

InterviewPrepFilter: I need to brush up on my numerical reasoning. I'm looking for ways to master things like word/story problems (probability, work-rate, distance), and some math review. I have good logic skills, but basic math can be confusing for me, esp. under pressure. Tutoring is not really an option and anything that is cram-friendly is also good. Any books, resources, tips, general guidance from math-y people ?
