How do I start salary negotiations after simply agreeing on the phone?

I was offered a job, but do to being just woken up and unsure of myself when the initial call came through, I did not try to negotiate the salary when they told me what it is over the phone. It's a bit under what I wanted and I was wondering, how do I contact them to engage in negotiations? And, once I do, how do I phrase it? I feel like I accidentally already agreed. [more inside]

Navigating simultaneous job offers from competing companies

I received a job offer from company A this morning, and I anticipate a job offer from company B sometime after a final-round interview tomorrow. The companies are direct competitors, and each is aware that I'm in talks with the other for the same type of position. Both companies have good reputations, but it's generally accepted that company B pays more. Questions inside. [more inside]

Flipping my job from one field to another - again

Help with negotiation

I just got a job offer (yay!) and I need help with negotiating benefits. Problem being that this is a very small and informal company while I've always worked at large multinationals with clear guidelines for these things. I have no idea how small companies work. [more inside]

Tight deadline for accepting an offer (waiting to hear from another)

Company A has an offer for me, and will be calling this Friday for an answer. Interviewed with Company B today, seemed to have gone well, explained to interviewer my situation, interviewer promised to give me an answer Friday as well. Now I'm worried Company A will get to me before Company B does, and I risk taking up on their offer without hearing from B first. What do I do? I won't give you the money, even though you may give me some money in the future, honest

Conflict-of-interest-filter: I work for X as a consultant. One of our roles is advising a client A how much they should pay Y. Recently the consultant arm of Y has approached me about potentially working for them in the future. I am genuinely interested in the job and have satisfied myself that I could consider this without affecting my judgement in advising client A, but am concerned about how it could look to outsiders. Advice? [more inside]

Should this Catastrophically Career-Confused Canadian accept the Bank Teller job offer or keep applying for something career-oriented?

I'm having trouble deciding on whether I should accept a job offer. I've been unemployed since about the middle of May of this year. I have a Bachelors degree in Business and am currently taking the CMA Accelerated Program, as my medium-term goal is to become an Accountant. I've had a couple of uninteresting jobs since graduation. My most recent job was as an English teacher(ish) for nine months in Quebec. I had a blast while I was there, but it's time to get my career on track before it careens off a cliff (if it's not already too late). [more inside]
