Love my job, don't love my boss, how do I transfer successfully?

After a year and a half of trying to make it work with an abusive manager, I'm throwing in the towel and actively looking to transfer. The problem? I have a lot of trouble with the "why are you looking to transfer/leave" question that keeps popping up in informationals with hiring managers in other departments [more inside]

How to prepare myself for the technical side of product management?

How do I best prepare myself for mid-level product management positions as someone with a few years of prior product manager experience, but a non-technical background? Are there particular skills I should learn, things I should learn, or experiences I should get? I'd like to prepare myself for interviews / jobs with a smaller company or startup. Additional details inside. [more inside]

Too ballsy?

I interviewed for a job at a company I really want to work with earlier this year. I was their second choice. Now an even dreamier position in a different but related department has opened up. Do I email the original interviewer, though this position does not report to her, before I apply? A few more details and questions inside. [more inside]

Can a Beggar Afford to be a Chooser in this Economy?

I was laid off from probably the nicest job/work environment I've ever had and the more job interviews I go to, the more I realize that I really want another work situation like the one I lost. Is this realistic given the bad economy (I'm in NorCal w/a 10% unemployment rate)? Should I try to hold out for an offer where I'll be similarly happy or should I just focus on getting back into the workforce? [more inside]

Following Up on Job Applications

I've finished my teacher education program and now I want a job. I sent out resumes to every school system I was interested in and followed up with the basic "Just want to confirm you received it" blah blah blah.
