Working in Rutherford, NJ. Where should I live? Can I live in NYC?

I'm a single, college-educated, mid-twenties male who will very likely be relocating from the West Coast to the Tri-State area in a few months for a full-time desk job in Rutherford, New Jersey. I'd love to know your recommendations for affordable rooms, apartments, studios, etc. in safe and convenient neighborhoods. [N.B. I grew up in and lived in South Brooklyn for many years, so I'm familiar with the NYC area, but I've never lived in NJ nor ever considered living there in the past.] [more inside]

Job Interview: Do I tell them why I want a new job?

I have a job interview this Friday. It is in a city 90 minutes from where I currently live, and 30 minutes from where my wife currently lives. Looking at my resume, it's obvious I'm having a good career at my current place of work, steadily getting promotions and increased responsibility. If I was an interviewer, it would be in the back of my mind, "Why's this guy looking for a new job? Problems where he is now?" I know they can't ask about my personal life and reasons for relocating, but does anyone think it would be weird to tell them I'm applying for this job because I want to live in the same city as my wife? Of course, I'd also tell them I'm applying for the job because of the skills and value I can bring to the organization, my prior experience gives a unique perspective from both sides of the desk, etc. etc. [more inside]

Go with current local job offer, or wait for possible second in other state?

I just got a good local job offer here in the midwestern US, but there's also the possibility of an offer from a company out on the west coast. While I have been pining to move out west for a while, I feel it more likely than not I'd end up accepting the first company's offer. Should I drop out of the second company's search? [more inside]

Relocating without jobs waiting for us?

Should we pick up and move simply because we want to live somewhere else? I'm not much of a risk-taker but I'm afraid we'll get stuck here if we don't roll the dice and attempt to live the dream. (Also, it's expensive to live in NYC while looking for jobs elsewhere.) [more inside]

Need $3000 liquid cash

I just landed a well paying job in Seattle after having a soul sucking job, where I did not save a penny for about a year. While the new salary will be great, I am essentially broke, and I need a $3000 loan to relocate and get started (which has been determined to be my responsibility to cover by negociation). None of my relatives or friends have this kind of cash, nor do I have a credit card. So how would I go about getting $3000? Can I just take my job offer into a bank and use that as leverage for a loan? Mefites, help me back out of this corner and find the cash to live my dream.

My life sucks

My life sucks. But the one good thing about being broke and unemployed is that you can do it anywhere. Assuming I were debt free with no commitments, where's a nice new place to go to scratch out a subsistence living as either a plumber, a waiter, or a dishwasher? Anywhere on the planet, English- or French-speaking (or anything easier than Russian or Chinese -- I'll have a few months to learn a new language as I pay my way toward escape), must have at least paved roads and indoor plumbing, and if the population hates Americans, I'd prefer that they do so abstractly rather than overtly. Canada, Iceland, and Belize seem kinda promising....
