Jobs For Introverted But Friendly One-On-One Types? Help!

I'm looking for a career change. I am a very focused, caring introvert, part creative and part analytical. But I'm really poor in an office environment. I hate meetings with more than 3-4 people and it's very stressful for me. I like people but I just feel that I thrive more in a one-on-one or small group setting. I work in online advertising for my company right now, and while I don't hate it and it sort of fits my personality type, the money isn't that great and I don't see myself as the "climb the corporate ladder" type. I am trying to find a career outside of the corporate office world where I may not sit at a desk all day and then have large meetings. I was looking into physical therapy assistant, massage therapist, maybe an allied health profession, or something else that is more one-on-one in nature. Any other suggestions? [more inside]

How to give employees unwelcome news

Half of my team makes widgets and half of my team makes sprockets. Next week, I need to tell my widget-making employees that we are cutting back on widget production and ramping up sprocket production -- they will start making sprockets 25-50% of the time. How do I make this unwelcome (but needed) change in job responsibilities suck less for my team? [more inside]

Best practices? My job laughs at these. Please help me leave.

I work in a very small IT company that makes custom business applications. The owner is way too involved in the day-to-day and pushes the sales guy to schedule us back to back to back for projects. We have no dedicated support staff so support for existing clients falls back to us (me and the one other developer) in addition to building new applications - and having all the meetings etc with clients. We are like half BA, half developer with no project manager anywhere in sight. I need to develop some skills that will allow me to get another job but no one here has the time or interest in creating requirements documents or making use cases. I barely have time to get my work done and am working more than 40 most weeks without overtime (I am salaried). I am getting burned out and need to leave. But the lack of actual SDLC/Agile/documentation stuff is really killing my attempts to transition to a straight BA position. [more inside]

Chance for a change... good? or bad?

My best friend is leaving her job at a local, well established physician’s office, and the position could be mine, as I understand it. In my head, there aren’t many downsides, but my SO thinks otherwise. Am I just blocking out major downsides because I feel like I want out of my current job? I feel if I go against my SO’s wishes I’ll never be allowed to have a bad day and rely on him, but I also don’t want to resent him for stopping me from making a switch if I become even more unhappy with my current position in the future. What to do? [more inside]

I am 85% certain I want to be a teacher

I've been seriously considering becoming a high school math teacher. I have some experience teaching in a classroom, and lots of experience tutoring. What I'd like to know now - before I jump into an alternative degree program - is what it's actually like being a teacher day in and day out. If I'm not going to be able to hack it, I'd rather know now. [more inside]

Change job, or stay in iffy situation?

I like the job I have right now, but I have the gut feeling our company is hurting for business. We probably over hired last year, which is painful especially as a small business in this climate. The upside is that I was just offered a new job at different small business. Because I really enjoy almost everything about my current job, how do I go about asking my current employer how financially stable the company is without looking suspicious? [more inside]
