ThanksgivingFilter: Cranberry mold help, please!!

Years ago, I went to my aunt's house, and she made this really fun Jello mold that was red and had bits of food-processed cranberries, walnuts, celery, and pineapple bits. It was soooo delicious! Since then I've tried to replicate it a few times, all to no avail. Each time, the Jello doesn't set and it comes out like basically a cranberry sauce that tasted like whatever Jello flavor I use. Can anyone point me to a good recipe AND include some tips for success? Many thanks in advance!!

American Pie

How should we class up a patriotic Jello pie? So, my friend linked me to the aforementioned pie, and we were thinking of making it for Thanksgiving dinner, both for novelty's sake, and because one has to go a little bit over the top when one is having an American Thanksgiving dinner in Canada.

However, we were wondering if there'd be a way to make it out of, you know, real foods while preserving the colour scheme and stratified nature. Something blueberry and strawberry based is the obvious choice, but how to make it structurally sound such that the stripes remain distinct? Any notions or advice are welcome.

I bet you I was a liberal arts major

As mentioned before in this post, my house is running a jello wrestling night. Now that we have the logistics set up, I would like to make some extra cash on taking bets. What is the best way to do this? I have been crunching numbers trying to figure out the best way to make this work. Traditional horse racing betting can only make the house money if there are more than two parties to bet on. While just saying "The winner will get 1.5 return on a winning bet" implies that the number of bets on the two wrestlers is even.

So what is the best way to do this?

Ideally I could sit with a laptop and a spreadsheet and enter in people betting amounts and have it change the odds which I can "lock" right before a match. And of course, the house (us) would take a cut.

Has anyone ever done something like this?

How do I properly run Jello Wrestling?

Jello Wrestling for dummies? Because I live in a house with 24 people where two are graduating and two have birthdays in the same week, we have decided to throw a party that involves Jello Wrestling.

Our plan was to get a kids pool and fill it up with lots of this stuff.

If you have run this type of event before: Any advice or battle stories? Materials recommended?

And if you have attended this kind of thing: what made it awesome (or not so awesome)?

Where not a frat house but everyone is of college age and we have a spacious back deck where we will be hosting this.

How do I get softer jello shots?

I need advice from a Jello shot head chef. Last time I made Jello shots, they set way too hard, which made them difficult to consume from the plastic cups they were set in. I had previously used the traditional 1 Cup Water, 1 Cup Booze recipe.

I'd like some advice on how to control the consistency of Jello. I assume the answers will be along the lines of more/less hot water or booze, but I'd like some more specific measurements, so that it's easier to predict the consistency and adjust scale accordingly.

Insect Chemistry

a bug hit my car's windshield. it was a large bug so it left a pretty large smear. this happened five days ago.

last night was the first time it rained since then. when i came out to my car this morning on the spot where the bug smear had been there was now a large (at least 10x volume) blob of clear gelatinous (exactly like pure gelatin) material.

what is that about? any ideas?

Would you drown in jello?

Could one swim/dig out from the bottom of a 15-20ft deep pool of jello (assuming you could hold your breath for a minute or two...or ten)? It's evidently a tricky question because jello is a tricky
substance--due to it being viscoelastic and onhomogeneous.

I've found several related links, but so far none really answer the question:

http://www.physicscentral.com/lou/2003/jello.html

http://msgboard.snopes.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=000090;p=1

http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=296855

and even one other person who's angry that noone's answered the
question (http://positivemode.blogspot.com/2006/06/can-you-swim-in-jello.html)

Frozen Jello.

Imponderables: Many (most?) liquids ("things"?) will crystallize when cooled slowly. Why not Jello™? Further to the question, cold-quenching or flash-freezing reduces crystallization. Does Jello do anything interesting if frozen using liquid nitrogen? Could one nail it to a tree?
