What is the best resource on layouts in webpages, specifically with the use of CSS and other web technologies? This has always been something that's been tricky for me and I'm wondering if there's something out there that really sums it up well.
The notes (aka comments) on medium.com don't appear to load on firefox, but load correctly in chrome and mobile safari. See these screenshots
. Everything else appears to be loading correctly except the 'read next' button in the lower left of the page and the menu button in the top left. [more inside]
I'm a frontend web developer with quite a long resume. I work full-time but I'd like to pick up some freelance, remote work in my spare time. I'm wondering if there are any places to look besides my personal network, Craigslist, and those awful "Rent-a-coder" sites where you get underbid by overseas folks who'll do it for $9/hr. I've got limited HTML and CSS skills, and I'd like to make a Web site that's basically one really, really, really gigantic picture and uses jQuery to jump around from point to point inside it. What's the easiest way to do that? [more inside]
I am a novice at html, but I have found code that I've used to create placeholders for images on the right side of my page that don't move when I scroll down. I want to hyperlink each of five images in that scroll follow box to a different audio file. Each audio file corresponds to one of five explanations grouped together on the left side of the page. There are dozens of five explanation groupings and the follow box helps users remember what the terms mean by clicking a close by box when they need to.
I'm scheduled for a technical interview after the weekend for a front-end development position. I'd like to spend some intensive time beforehand reading relevant blogs and books to prime the ol' noodle and supplement my existing knowledge. Could you recommend some resources? Are there questions you would ask an applicant in this situation, or that you have been asked? [more inside]
I posted this question
a few months back but would like to... ask again with a little more details. I bit the bullet and signed up for classes again, and after my first half day back, I'm now at home having a panic attack regarding my decision. I'm a historic preservation graduate student, and after a whole year of freaking out about what I want in life, all I really want is a job that pays well, or an incredibly marketable skill. I doubt I will get either with this degree. [more inside]

Is there a way to enable Facebook Comments Box for mobile viewing in Google Blogger?
I used these instructions
to enable Facebook comments on my blog. It worked out, but it's not showing up in the mobile view.
discusses how to add a widget to the Blogger Mobile Template. The Facebook Comments Box is not exactly a widget. I imagine there's probably a solution to getting it to appear in the mobile view, similiar to this
, but I don't know how to do it. Is there a way to add something like this (mobile='yes') to the plugin code?

I need to slap together a website FAST that contains a map and a (sortable? filterable?) list of Wisconsin-related protest/rally events. I'd really, really like it if people could enter their own events and they'd show up on the map without a lot of intervention on my part. [more inside]
What IDEs, editors, or general tools do people use to do web development? I'm a linux geek, so my tool of choice is gVim. But I'm teaching a course on this right now and don't want to inflict my prejudices on the students, and I'd like a broader perspective. So if you're a web developer, what do you use? NetBeans, Notepad? Something in-between?

Two webcoding questions:
1) What is the web coding name for hiding/revealing text without reloading a page? For instance, on this page
you can see "Continue Reading" and "Hide this News Article" as
called and are there simple free coding samples available for me to
use? 2) Are there any free plugins that I can use on a blog to play
audio samples? Something similar to what's used in MuFi or Wordpress's audio streamer
, but without needing Wordpress. Thanks!
