Always desiring to experience living in Japan, I moved in the country from Canada almost a year ago on a working holiday visa, which will expire next month. My life here is stable so far, including a job at a company willing to sponsor me for a work visa. I want to live in Japan for a longer period, but the problem is I don't seem to meet the requirements for a visa. I am aware that getting married is the easiest way, but unfortunately, I do not have that possibility.
Is there anything I can do to stay and work in Japan longer?

I've lived in Japan for some time now, but I'm not very good at the language. When I encounter anything beyond the simple, and I don't understand what's going on, I feel frustrated, then angry, then ashamed, which undermines any confidence I have to speak the language, which makes it less likely that I'll do better the next time. I'm traveling to Japan and Singapore soon, returning to the US on October 1, 2010. My passport expires April 11, 2011. Singapore's entry requirements state that the passport must be valid for at least six more months. Do I need to renew before I go?

Ｃan any of you less-frustrated Japanese readers or super sleuths find the address of my former bank in Japan? It is moneykit.net, the all-electronic division of Sony Bank (ソニー銀行). So electronic, I can't find a physical address, which is required for US tax forms. I may have to hand-carry 50 copies of an English-language business book into Japan next month. I will declare the books to the customs inspector at Narita.
Does anyone have experience doing this? Does Japanese Customs only accept cash? Is my lack of Japanese likely to be a problem? Is this a one-stop process, or will I have to collect the books later?
