A friend of mine and I are going to Japan in a couple months and are getting our tickets now. We'll be leaving from Washington, DC and will be arriving in Tokyo and leaving from Osaka later. I'm worried about comfort, he's worried about price. We're both worried about the hassle of switching/transferring between the two Tokyo airports on the way back. Suggestions? [more inside]

I understand that Princess Sayako must leave the imperial family
because she is marrying a commoner. However, from the article, it sounds as if she'll no longer be considered their daughter. Will she still be allowed to visit? How does this work and what are the traditions surrounding such a farewell?

The girlfriend and I are going to Tokyo for a week's vacation in October. She'd like to get a tattoo while she's there (she already has a couple). The designs she has in mind (probably a Haeckel
piece) would require a very skilled tattoo artist, I'd think. Any recommendations?

I'm a bit ignorant as regards Japan and all things Japanese, and am not quite sure where to start. But I have some very specific questions that I hope MeFi might help with, having to do with use of the Roman alphabet for electronic communications, in Japan. How do email addresses work? URLs? Jitensha-Filter: I fantasize about moving to Japan to teach English, when I retire from my computer career. To achieve this end, I've earned my TESL certificate, but so far, I'm just a repeat tourist with lots of Nihon travel experience -- but always on foot. Part of the fantasy involves riding a bicycle over there -- and not one of their clunky no-speeds, but my
bicycle. What's involved when a gaijin brings in his bicycle? I'm guessing it's not as easy as retrieving it from checked luggage at Narita, and riding away -- knowing the Japanese, there's regulations to be satisified, in an approved manner.

Can anyone help me find a copy of Kokoo's 'Super-Nova'

On June 26th I will be leaving the US for Japan and I hope to stay there for a long time. I am not worried about the language (I have been studying it at university for about 3 years and when I get to Japan I will be taking summer school courses for 6 weeks) or finding a place to live (I'm going to look into the "gaijin houses" or geshuku). My biggest concern is finding a job. I've already taught English at one of the big eikaiwas and I did not like it. Plus, teaching/speaking English for 8 hours a day does not help my Japanese. What I really want is a job where I can use my Japanese so that I can improve it. Does anyone have any general advice for finding a job like this in Japan (places to look, tests to take, etc)?
Also, I've been reading up on the Japanese work visa and I've come to the conclusion that the whole thing is a big pain. As far as I can tell there are 2 ways to get a work visa: 1) get a job before you enter Japan and have the company do all the paperwork. Then, when you do enter Japan you will have your visa. 2) Find a job in Japan, return to the US for 1~2 months so that the paperwork can be processed, then return to Japan with the visa.
It is a little late for #1, plus it's difficult for me to interview for jobs since I'm currently in the US. As for #2, what sort of company would hire someone who can't even start working for a month? I feel like the system is set up to deter people like me from coming and working in Japan.
Anyway, if anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it.
