I did speak about this with my doctor, but I would like to hear more from people who have had copper IUDs or Essure.

A friend of mine is designing a clinical trial to determine the comparative effectiveness of different methods of pain control during IUD insertion. The problem is, there isn’t a lot of existing literature on what women are actually being offered out in the real world, and what does exist is pretty low quality.
If you have an IUD, and if you were offered pain control measures during insertion, what were they? How effective those measures were isn't really relevant here, because that's what the trial is designed to figure out; I’m just trying to help her get a sense of what the current state of practice is so that the design of the study can be as robust and relevant as possible. For Science!

First of all, I got an IUD inserted last week. I was planning on paying out of pocket (I'm under my parent's insurance but for religious reasons didn't want to utilize it for fear of discovery), but is there any way to make it cheaper? Second, I went to a check-up appointment today and they told me that I have a bicornuate uterus (heart shaped, not totally split), something they didn't check for before they inserted the IUD. I was told the IUD wasn't in the correct location and would therefore be less effective. What are my options?

I'm getting a copper IUD next week, yay! I did a little too much background reading about it and am now totally psyching myself out, boo! Can you talk me back into being excited, or at least calm, about this decision?

My copper IUD was removed a month early - because I got pregnant. As it's been five years since I had to think about it, I was wondering what contraception to go for next.

My doctor's office billed me up front for an IUD and told me I would be reimbursed. Today, after calling them repeatedly, I found out that they have not filed a claim for the device, and they couldn't give me a satisfactory explanation as to why. I have no idea what to do now.

IUD insertion pain: please help me plan for handling it. I'm extremely sensitive to pain (especially right now, given recent medical history), but my doctors and I agree I need a Mirena IUD.

Has anyone else had weight and/or emotional problems that they attribute to hormonal birth control, specifically the Mirena IUD?
I know there have been several IUD threads – one of them helped convince me to get one. But most of them dealt with questions about getting one, and now, I'm wondering if removing mine would be a good idea. (more inside)

My darling girlfriend and I have a birth control dilemma and need some input. The short of it is this: because of regular medications she has to take, we're encouraged to use two forms of birth control. Consequently she takes Seasonalle and we use condoms. The question is: would the current breed of hormone-releasing IUD products suffice as two forms of birth control?
