Will IUD insertion remain free on my insurance through 2017?

I want to get a Mirena IUD, but I am still losing pregnancy weight and I would rather finish doing that first just in case the IUD makes it harder. Will IUD insertion remain free on my already-purchased insurance plan for 2017? [more inside]

Getting Mirena IUD removed: what should I expect?

In the 4 years I've had the Mirena IUD, I've put on 40 pounds and I've gone from having no PMS symptoms to being practically unhinged a few days per month—like, more depressed than I've been in twenty years. Between the weight and the intermittent crazy, I've decided it's time to ditch the Mirena. I've been reading about the "Mirena crash" and scary nonstop bleeding. Anyone have advice on what to expect? Unprotected sex after second mirena insertion.

My doctor didn't know the answer to this, looked at me deadpan, and said "you can wait". Obviously. I'm just curious though, having immediately replaced one mirena with another, is there still the prerequisite seven day alternative contraceptive wait time?

Will the Mirena IUD make my brain explode?

I'm on track to getting the Mirena IUD within the next month or so, because I have insanely heavy periods. Cherry angioma and IUD...any connection?

I assume that's what all these bright pink/red flecks are, though they aren't exactly round and are not raised at all; completely flush with the skin. Anyway, they came on all of a sudden within a week or two of getting the Mirena. Historically I used combination pill then NuvaRing and never had these appear. Should I be concerned? Is it possible they have anything to do with the IUD?

I hate when docs say: "This has never happened, you are so unlucky"

I had an appointment for my copper IUD to be removed last night and jokingly said to the nurse practitioner, "I sure hope it comes out easier than it went it". Well...it didn't come out. The strings broke and the 'T' is still in there somewhere. The NP went to get the doctor who said "This has never happened here before - you are very unlucky!". Um yeah, thanks, I know. The doc tried to fish out the IUD with some tool, but didn't have any luck. They both had very sorrowful/concerned looks on their faces and sent me home. I am awaiting a phone call today to see if they can get me in to see someone (anyone) early next week. Fingers crossed. [more inside]

What were you offered for pain during your IUD insertion?

A friend of mine is designing a clinical trial to determine the comparative effectiveness of different methods of pain control during IUD insertion. The problem is, there isn’t a lot of existing literature on what women are actually being offered out in the real world, and what does exist is pretty low quality. If you have an IUD, and if you were offered pain control measures during insertion, what were they? How effective those measures were isn't really relevant here, because that's what the trial is designed to figure out; I’m just trying to help her get a sense of what the current state of practice is so that the design of the study can be as robust and relevant as possible. I got an IUD and now they tell me I have a bicornuate uterus... Options?

First of all, I got an IUD inserted last week. I was planning on paying out of pocket (I'm under my parent's insurance but for religious reasons didn't want to utilize it for fear of discovery), but is there any way to make it cheaper? Second, I went to a check-up appointment today and they told me that I have a bicornuate uterus (heart shaped, not totally split), something they didn't check for before they inserted the IUD. I was told the IUD wasn't in the correct location and would therefore be less effective. What are my options? [more inside]
