My music collection is practically non-existent. I have a new iPod, a laptop and 2GB per month downloads. What is the best and cheapest way to start building a music library from scratch? Should I just buy everything from iTunes, or what? And does anyone still pay for music?! [more inside]

How can I search lyrics in iTunes on Windows? I used a program to automatically add lyrics to many of my songs in iTunes. Some of the lyrics now consist of things like, "These lyrics are missing. Could you please submit them?" due to a failure to automatically retrieve anything. I'd like to search for common terms and either purge the bad lyrics or move those song to a playlist where I can then run them through a lyrics cleaner. Looks like there's a few good Mac/Applescript solutions but nothing I can find in Windows.

I have a 4th Gen click wheel iPod. It still plays and charges. Today, I got the "restore" error message when hooking it up to my iMac/iTunes. I tried restoring it but it then gave me the msg "The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1433)" and directed me to here. I tried the usual stuff recommended including: unplugging and replugging; trying new cord; holding menu and center button down for reboot; trying on other macs -- and still get the same msg. Although the technology is old, the iPod itself has hardly been used. Any suggestions? (Besides buying a new one.)
Thanks for your input.

I have an iPhone 3G and an old iBook G4 running iTunes 8.2.23, and this morning when I plugged the phone into the laptop iTunes no longer seemed to recognize the phone. iPhoto opens automatically and asks if I want to download my photos, but when I go into iTunes the phone doesn't show up in the menu on the left side of the screen and I get the spinning wheel of death. I've had the phone for about a week and it worked just fine with iTunes/my laptop until now. Any suggestions? [more inside]

Can someone please tell me how to find the size of my iPhoto and iTunes files? I go into Library, find iPhoto and iTunes and then find bunch of subfiles, divided by date; but they don't seem to include all the pictures and songs. It doesn't make sense and Apple documentation doesn't clarify the matter.

I want to put my itunes library on a shared drive or NAS. I have 2 spare older laptops and was hoping to connect external drives to them and share them. But I have some (a lot of) songs that have filenames not in english. Some are unicode and some are big5 (an asian character encoding). I also want to be able to admin my itunes from windows and mac os or maybe just mac os. [more inside]

I am not renewing my MobileMe account this year and I am in the process of switching over the email address for everything attached to it. The only sticking point? My Apple ID is currently tied to my MobileMe account, so anything I have purchased from the iTunes store is tied to that account. How do I change this? I tried just logging into Apple's My Info site, but you can't change you ID if it's tied to a MobileMe account. Do I need to create a new account and transfer everything over to that somehow? (Can you do that?) Or is there some obscure and Apple-obfuscated way of actually making this change?

Dad's a consultant, and travels constantly for work. Work provides a laptop, but won't let him install iTunes. Is there a way to get music & audiobooks to synch to his ipod through an external drive, or cloud computing or something? Doesn't have to be iTunes, just a way to connect my dad and his music without offending corporate IT.

iTunes is ruining my music! After importing or ripping an album, an average of 5 tracks will skip and begin playing again at the start. This gets VERY stressful when I import about 5 albums a day and don't get a chance to listen to the music until a few days later, causing me to have to re-import many times over to make sure all the songs play through. Itunes is not retrieving titles for CDs from CDBB. It tries to but gets nothing after a few seconds. I am not sure it is even connecting to CDBB or what error(s) are occurring. I even reinstalled Itunes 9 (9.0.2 - newest) and it still does it. I do get the response "This CD was not found in CDBB database. You can enter information for the CD and each of its tracks. If this is not a commercial CD etc etc etc"...I've tried several CDs such as the Doors, Pete Townsend, Roxy Music...all ones that have worked on previous Itunes incarnations. I am not sure if it is an Itunes thing, a Mac/computer thing, or CDBB thing. This is a new thing and wasn't happening before. I have had the computer about a year if that matters. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help and have a good upcoming holiday.

I have a smart Playlist on my iTunes which functions properly and has all the right tracks in it. I have it checked as a Playlist to export to my iPhone. The iPhone has a playlist with exactly the same name ... but completely different songs. I've double checked that I don't have two playlists with the same name in iTunes. Not just one track is different--none of the tracks overlap. Why is this happening? [more inside]

MrR moved my music drive (to a larger hard drive yay!) and iTunes is not handling this gracefully at all. (He hates iTunes, will not use it, and therefore did not follow any of the procedures detailed in the answers to this question
.) The directory trees are all the same, the only change is the drive letter. How do I get iTunes to look in the right place without losing all the metadata (ratings, play dates/frequency)? (PC; iTunes does not organise my library; the old drive is already removed from my computer and wiped. Changing each file path individually is functionally not
acceptable (30K files!), nor is changing the drive letter.)

Cant easily sync itunes and Iphone.
Running latest versions of both software.
I can sync everything else but
only way to sync music seems to be I had to check all of the songs in my core iTunes music folder as if i was selecting them to be played.
When I synched my music from there it worked fine. Bug I think but this seemed to work.
Who writes itunes software anyway: really non-intuitive

I'm in the UK and want to download a free app that is only available through the US iTunes/App Store. I have memberships of both the UK and US iTunes stores, but unfortunately the credit card on my US account has expired. When it comes to the point at which I download the app (on either the computer or the phone) it asks for an updated credit card. If I could convince someone to "lend" me their iTunes login details for a short while, even if there was no money on their card, would this work? Anyone tried this or willing to help?
