I started having problems with my Ipod and I am unsure of the best way to remedy the problem.

We just got an Ipod Nano (the latest one) for Christmas and when we first got it out of the box we were able to download music from our computer to the I-Pod. We did it with I-tunes and I remember seeing something that indicated that the I-Pod was being recognized by the I-tunes website. No problems downloading to the I-Pod.
But now I'm trying to add some music and the I-Pod is not being recognized. The new songs are in my library (under I-tunes) and they are already paid for. I have Windows Vista.
The little white USB cord is not having a problem with charging the I-Pod, but nothing on the computer indicates that the I-Pod is recognized.
When I am in the library, I click on DEVICES, and I can see a word that says sync, but sync is not in bold, another words I can't click on it.
Any advice? I already turned my computer off and on again, and also took out the USB and put it back in as well.
I went to the website and read the manual but there is so much there and I don't see how to do any of the instructions if the I-pod is not recognized.

This is simple. When my phone is in portrait modein the native music app, you get a useful player. But in landscape mode the screen turns into a collection of album covers to choose music. Which stinks. Any way to have the portrait usability in landscape mode?

Looking for a slick way to update the album artwork for a large (>150gb) music library on a PC. The key here is updating to HD
album artwork. My smartphone has a really high res screen and most artwork looks awful on it. What's the easiest, most painless way to do this (for free!

I have all this music on my iPhone. But when I go to play it, it has to download it from the cloud first. Although the playlists are there, nothing is actually being stored on the phone. So it takes ages and chews through lots of data when I just want to play a song. How do I get rid of all this cloud nonsense and just store old-fashioned music files on my iPhone? (Relevant: I have iTunes Match switched *off* in Settings -> Music on my iPhone.)

I have an ubuntu powered fileserver that I primarily use as a media server these days. There are many files on the machine that (for various reasons) I no longer have a license to play.*
What is the best way to scan through all the songs in my library (about 30k) and filter out those that will not play given that they do not all have an exclusive filetype?
*Example: a song that was bought by a roommate with a license shared through iTunes that is no longer shared.

I'd like to be able to play my 30+GB iTunes music library in the living room, without needing a computer, and without spending more than around $250. I don't have a receiver, speakers or an iPod without enough capacity to hold my full library, though I do use iTunes Match. What are some good options for this? [more inside]

I was changing my iTunes email address, which is my iTunes I. D. My old email address is going away, necessitating the change. I got to looking in my purchases, and all of them were there, under the new I. D. but there were a handful of songs (6 or 7?) listed as purchased by me that I DID NOT purchase. A bunch of show tunes (not that there is anything wrong with that). [more inside]

Is there an application that runs on iOS, or that runs on Ubuntu and has an iOS client, that will allow me to manage (as oppose to merely play) my digital music collection? I need to be able to import new files I have ripped, edit tags, and edit file/folder structure from my iPad due to carpal tunnel syndrome. [more inside]

I have an album by The Cult called "Electric" that was in Unknown folder in iTunes. I moved it to the proper music group folder in iTunes "The Cult" where all their other albums are. BUT when I open iTunes, it won't show up with the search of The Cult or under their name. I can find particular tracks in iTunes, go an hit Play and it then asks for me to locate that song. There are other screw things going on (like some albums thrown into compilations, but I can probably fix that) but this is the most frustrating. Any ideas? Do I have to go buy Tune Up or some other application? (I am running the newest iTunes on an iMac w/ Snow Leopard)

CD Ripping - how to break tracks into smaller chunks? itunes or MediaMonkey. I recently got a copy of Stay Awake, a CD of new artists doing covers of old Disney songs, and I want to rip it to my computer. Several tracks are medleys - 3 or 4 songs running into each other as a single track. I know I can rip these individually, and then use a cutting program to make an individual copy of the songs, but is there an easier/automated way? [more inside]

I have 300gb of music, a house, several Mac laptops, a Mac G5, a router, two iphones, an ipad, and several external HDs where the music is stored. I would like to be able to play music anywhere in my house, control it wirelessly without the laptops and update libraries as well as all my devices with whatever I like anywhere in the house, without having to drag out the external USB HD to plug into various laptops like I do now. I'm willing to buy equipment to let this happen. Bonus if it lets me move movies onto a USB stick to plug into my nifty new tv. Details under the fold. [more inside]

iTunes missing tracks filter: What can I do when I see the exclamation mark beside a song in iTunes and when I click on the song, I get the message "Song X could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" Then, of course, it can't find it.
So I have two questions about this:
1. How can I find the songs that are currently tagged with that exclamation mark? I *know* I haven't deleted them.
2. How do I prevent this from happening in the future?
Tech details: Windows 7,about 17,000 songs, if that matters.
I'm sorry if this seems elementary, but I can't seem to find a straightforward answer to this in the forums.
Thank you *so much* everyone for bearing with me with this simple (but screamingly frustrating) question.

What's the best technology for a little kid listening to music? My five-year-old loves music. We only have song on iTunes and iPods. He can't read the song titles, and it's too easy for him to mess things up. I'm wishing for a stack of records ("like we had when I was a kid") that he could manage himself. Any advice on creating a self-operable music listening system for kids in this age of digital music? Thanks!
