My daily/everyday bag is a canvas haversack - about as large as a small messenger bag. I already know to carry things like breath strips and a small umbrella and a paperback around, but recently I've been looking to expand on the everyday items. For example: there was an awkward lull in conversation during a train ride. I happened to be carrying a pack of cards and taught everyone to play German Whist - wonderful ice breaker, great way to spend the trip. I'm looking for things like that, small, non-obvious essentials to put in your bag that can be used in many different situations.

I started my first 9-5 office job a few weeks back, and have been slowly figuring out the things I can keep on hand to make my work day a little more enjoyable. Things like hand lotion, trail mix, pictures of friends and family.
There are also things I'm realizing I should always have handy: tampons, painkillers, granola bars, etc.

Can you tell me which games for either the NES, SNES, or Genesis (or their contemporaries) had the visual appearance of your character change logically when you got a new item? I'm not looking for something like Final Fantasy I, where the appearance changes due to an event, but you otherwise look the same, no matter which armor you have on; I'm looking for games like Metroid, where Samus's Power Suit and Varia Suit are different armors, and your character looks different as a result. Not looking for examples from later-gen systems such as Playstation onward, which seem much more likely to do this.

I'm in hotels all the time (about 16 nights a month), and it just occurred to me that those little bottles of shampoo and stuff could go to a better cause than just hanging in the room after I leave. Should I donate them to a homeless shelter or some other organization, or would they rather just have a check? Any specific places that are in need of toiletry supplies?
Me and the Mrs. will be having our first child in late March. We've already bought a few clothes and miscellaneous items, but I'd like to know what should we get now?
