Help me identify this Italian dessert that my wife had several years ago. She describes it as layers of Gorgonzola cheese, mascarpone cheese, and dried fruit. Possibly there were other elements but that’s all she remembers, aside from it being delicious. [more inside]

Ok, I could have sworn I read this book multiple times when I was a kid, but nobody seems to remember it exists including my cat-loving, children's literature professor mom who gave it to me. I'll try to list every thing I can remember about it in the extended explanation. To summarize, it takes place in an Italian town where a young-fountain-making apprentice wants to make his own fountain so that all the stray cats around him will have some place to drink. As he is poor, he cobbles together the material from things he can find, and in the end I do believe he ends up making the fountain. My mom and the internet don't seem to remember this book, but I think it did exist. Maybe you guys will come up with something. [more inside]
My husband and I are going for a long weekend in Genoa, Italy. I've been really lapse in my planning and now I turn to the hivemind! I've done a bit of homework, but not enough, can you help? [more inside]
In The Fruit Hunters by Adam Gollner, he mentions "Bologna's Garden of Lost Fruit" as a fruit-focused tourist destination (p. 35). Googling for this name only brings up a Google Books snippet of the book, and trying to translate it to Italian doesn't seem to give anything useful either. What is this place called in Italian, and where can I find it?
I'm learning that many of the customs and traditions that I think of as Roman actually originated from the Etruscans instead. Can anyone recommend some good books, videos, or websites about ancient Etruscan culture and history?

Headline says it all: how do I make the best cannoli filling? Ricotta+powdered sugar+vanilla? How much of each (or other ingredients) should I use? I made it last night with 1.5 lb ricotta, 1 c powdered sugar, and 1/4 tsp vanilla, using a recipe in some old Italian cookbook, but it came out a bit chalky and not as thick/creamy as it is when it comes from a restaurant. Any specific pointers (or any particularly great add-ins)? Lots of Google hits, but I'm trying to filter out the noise. Thanks in advance.

Sympathy cards in Italy. A somewhat distant relative of mine in Italy passed away recently and I'd like to send a card. As my Italian is rudimentary at best and as I'm not sure what is acceptable or proper to write in a sympathy card in Italy, I'd appreciate any suggestions from Italian-speaking Mefites. [more inside]
