For the past thirty years I've been trying to identify every song on a cassette tape I made from the radio. I have now found them all, except one. Can anyone tell me what the artist and title of this song is? I have only two seconds of audio here. Here’s the backstory behind my pointless three decade old mission… [more inside]

I'm looking to buy an item of clothing online, but I need an address in Spain or Italy to do so. I know there are companies that provide you with an address in the US or the UK or Japan and will then forward your package on to you, but I can't seem to find anything like this for Spain or Italy. Does anyone know where I might find such a service?
Hi, My partner and I are going to Italy in a couple of weeks. We're going to spend 3 days in Milan. We are aware that Milan is great for shopping and we're definitely planning on visit some of the furniture showrooms in the city. But internet search also says the Brianza region right outside Milan has the greatest concentration of furniture shops in Italy. But I have a hard time figuring out logistics of visiting these shops. Three or four years ago I saw a photograph in an actual newspaper of a group of wetnurses and babies in an Italian orphanage. There were some rows of buxom young women in uniform, each one seated with a breast out feeding a baby. The young women all wore a kind of nurses cap and oddly, every single one of them had dark curly hair. There was an odd juxtaposition in the picture between the uniformity of the group - and they were pretty smart - and the intimacy of the action. The date must have been 1940's or 30's. Now I've tried googling this picture and while the searches have taken me to some unexpectedly alarming places, I've not found it. The closest I've got, in feeling and structure, is number 3 of 4 here; but this isn't it. So, consulting the diverse and extensive knowledges accumulated here, does anyone know the photograph and where I might see it again? [more inside]

My wife has just accepted a good job in Naples. She's a British citizen and so, according to the Italian consulate, I'll be able to get an EU residency card and a work permit, healthcare, etc. wiout much trouble at all. (Sadly, she just recently turned down a job in the UK because the spousal visa process was so onerous as to be ridiculous.) A new adventure! But we know *nothing* of Italy and Naples n particular. Help! [more inside]

Ok, I could have sworn I read this book multiple times when I was a kid, but nobody seems to remember it exists including my cat-loving, children's literature professor mom who gave it to me. I'll try to list every thing I can remember about it in the extended explanation. To summarize, it takes place in an Italian town where a young-fountain-making apprentice wants to make his own fountain so that all the stray cats around him will have some place to drink. As he is poor, he cobbles together the material from things he can find, and in the end I do believe he ends up making the fountain. My mom and the internet don't seem to remember this book, but I think it did exist. Maybe you guys will come up with something. [more inside]

My mother, two adult sisters and I are traveling mid-may to see Pompeii and the Amalfi coast and are wondering where to stay. I saw a few older threads but in the age of Airbnb I'd love some fresher recommendations... We're easy, but we do want an ocean view where possible, and preferably a place to park. Any suggestions?
A friend just moved to Italy and has mentioned that almost all of the cafes in Milan and Rome now serve a product called Caffe al Ginseng (coffee with ginseng). Given Italy's status as one of the authentic and original coffee cultures, I was surprised to hear about the seaming popularity on this new offering. Can anyone shed some light on this coffee type? I'm trying to find the artist who made this painting. I purchased the painting in Orta San Giulio, Italy, about 5 years ago. The signature says "Bertocchi" although it may say "Beitocchi". The painting came in a larger frame, I think I spent about $200 for it, however it may have been slightly more. Would like to get more works by this artist on this location. Thanks!

I recently purchased 15 rolls of black and white 35mm negatives from a thrift store and had them developed. There are over 500 images from late 30s Italy, mostly Naples. The photographs contain images of: Hitler on parade with King Victor Emmanuel, shots of fascist youth, Pompeii, a building with a big 'Heil Hitler' sign on it, farming, boating, lots of images of a Mobile Oil plant, ships coming into Manhattan, people enjoying themselves, etc. My question: Are finds like this valuable? Who might purchase a collection like this?

Trying to obtain Italian citizenship via Jus Sanguinis. Found all relatives born or married in the US and now moving back toward Italy, but running into a wall with Italian records. Does anyone know how to obtain birth and marriage licenses from Italy either online or in person? Family would be from the 1880s-1920s and primarily be from Sicily, Puglia, Calabria, Campania, and possibly Basilicata. Gov't records would obviously be ideal, but Catholic Church records would also be an option. Thank you! [more inside]
My family (myself, my sister and our parents) are heading off shortly for a vacation in Rome, Italy. My family likes to write a lot; my parents are actually taking on online writing course at the moment, and I have a fair bit of writing to do for work. In the States we'd go hang out at a coffeehouse to get our daily wordcount in. What's the best place to get writing done in Rome? [more inside]
Calling foodies and aficionados of remote North-East Italy! During the last week of August I will have the rare opportunity to visit the region of Friuli that I heard so much about, but I'm at loss at where to start and how to plan an itinerary... Despite flying in and out of Ljubljana, I want to skip Slovenia and Trieste, and instead fully concentrate on the Provinces of Udine and Gorizia. I will be traveling solo, however not backpacking (more like suitcase-ing). I'm there for the vineyards, the cuisine, the castles, the history and the ruins, and of course the ragged breathtaking Alps. Specific questions inside but ALL your recommendations, ideas, memories and address books are appreciated and dearly welcome! [more inside]

Contemplating an Italian vacation (in the range of two weeks or so) in the next year or two, for a family group of about 5-6 people. Perhaps there's no real difference between them. [more inside]

My SO and I will be travelling to Northern Italy (the lakes region) and Slovenia in late August. Huzzah! As we're cementing our plans, it occurs to us that it would be fun to run in some sort of organized running race during that time, even if it's just some running club's 5K. However, it's been hard for us English-speaking Americans to find a reliable source of information as to when any such races will be going on. Can anyone help us? Barring actual races, what running tours, or other such similar things, do people recommend in the Italian lakes region, or in Slovenia? [more inside]
Wife and I are going to Italy in a couple of weeks. It's our first trip there, and one we wanted to do for a long time. Friends that have been there are telling us all the places to see in Rome, Venice, Florence etc. Thing is, other than being in Rome the first & last night, we aren't going to any of those places, and don't really want to! We're planning to get off the beaten path as much as we can. Is this a good/bad idea? I'm having doubts now.. [more inside]
Previous AMF questions have discussed walking into various mobile providers in Italy and just buying a SIM card. Glancing around internet currently suggests that SIM card sales are (more?) heavily regulated in Italy than previously, even to the point of not offering them for sale to someone showing a passport. Curious if any current Italy residents, expats, or students can provide info for the following: US unlocked GSM smartphone owner heading to Italy for 10 days and would like to have reasonable phone and text options to call/text back to states to check on house and pets with housesitter. Data a plus but absolutely not necessary. Any advice to smooth the process of buying a SIM card in Italy would be greatly appreciated.

Four of us are coming in on different flights and terminals throughout a single morning - what landmark in the Fiumicino airport can we all meet by?
In The Fruit Hunters by Adam Gollner, he mentions "Bologna's Garden of Lost Fruit" as a fruit-focused tourist destination (p. 35). Googling for this name only brings up a Google Books snippet of the book, and trying to translate it to Italian doesn't seem to give anything useful either. What is this place called in Italian, and where can I find it?

Currently I'm in Italy. In March I'll be travelling to Scotland by train and making stops along the way. Then I'll be flying home to Toronto. My problem is that I have a lot of luggage that I needed for an extended professional stay in Italy, but which will only serve to encumber me when I go traveling. What is the best way for me to forward one large (standard checked baggage) suitcase home to Canada from Italy when I head out? I would especially appreciate any advice based on personal experience.
