I'm sure this question will not make me the most popular student at the dance, but is there a way to identify (via IP) machines running BitTorrent clients within an internal network (ie. work)? My company has around 50 employees, and the old, "Please don't torrent at work" doesn't seem to be doing much good anymore. It brings our email and web browsing to a near standstill, and dropping by the "usual suspects" is not only tiresome, but doesn't seem to find all the sources of traffic any longer. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm stuck in a contracting loop and I need career advice :( I'm about to finish up a 9 month contract at a major pharmaceutical. I was on contract for 6-months and got extended the final 3. Before that I was out of work for a few months after being laid off from my previous job. That involved supporting remote synchronization software as well as SQL work. I graduated with a major in Information Studies and I've worked help desk positions in the past. [more inside]

My friend seeks a job as a web developer focusing on the creation of web applications. I'm trying to put together a resumé for him that will showcase his considerable tech skills, but I'm not sure which specifics to include, which ones to leave out, or how to phrase the information in a manner palatable to potential employers. He recently moved to Wisconsin and will probably soon be moving to Vermont, so he doesn't know any other local geeks who can provide info on the lay of the land. [more inside]

I am 19 and starting a small IT business in orange county, CA. I have 3 medium size clients that use me regularly, and I've taken on my first employee part time recently. Is an MBA worth getting? I've seen a lot of talk to the contrary lately, and most of the MBAs that I know don't seem to be doing work now that particularly requires an MBA, so I'm wondering if it's just a waste of time and money compared to just gaining more work experience? I was thinking of getting an MBA as a way to shift into less pure-IT related work, since I can't seem to get rehired as a developer after a long absence.
