ISO sized poster frames in the US?

Where can I buy an A0 (1189 x 841 mm) sized poster frame domestically? I am fortunate enough to have two of these bad boys hanging on my wall:
http://shop.eboy.com/collections/poster

There seems to be a baffling scarcity of North American suppliers who deal in ISO sizes. International shipping from .uk and .au stores, or having it custom-framed locally, are both stupidly expensive.

I'm looking for a run-of-the-mill snap poster frame, the kind with a backing, plastic sheet over top, and thin metal / plastic brackets that slide or snap on. Nothing fancy, just need to take it off pushpins to prevent further damage.

ISO 9241-9

Asking for a friend: I need access to ISO 9241-9 for a Comp Eng project, but since I am a poor student, don't have $150 to spend on it. I've tried searching the web for it, but no luck there. Is there some way I can access the document that does not involve me breaking the bank? Thanks In advance!

Hunk of Burning Love Needed

How do I burn a dvd on a mac from an iso file with subtitles? I have folder which contains a film in iso format. The iso includes two folders, AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. I would like to burn this on dvd. There are also several other files, srt., sfv., md5., and nfo.

I already tried burning it to a dvd using the built in mac Disk Utility but the subtitles do not seem to work.

What am I doing wrong? Please hope me.

ISO, W3C, OOXML/ODF: How do tech standards impact you?

What's your stake in international tech standards and OOXML?(I'm working up a thesis and I could use some input from the computer literate world) Ok, so I'm getting set to do my masters thesis in Public Administration, and I've decided to write about the wonderful world of international standardization-- mostly ICT(read: tech) standards (eg. HTML5, CSS3, domain naming/registering rules via ICANN, OOXML, ODF, PDF, anything from IEC ISO IEEE JTC1, etc.)

One area that I am exploring is output legitimacy in the standardization process. I have a pretty good theory, but I need some ideas about where to investigate for evidence...

This is where you come in. If you feel inclined, shout out about any of the following:
Why are standards important(to you)?

How have ICT standards impacted you/your job?

Are there International standards you have resisted implementing at your job or on a project? why?

Any first-hand accounts of political manipulation of the standards development process.

What's your take on the OOXML/ODF controversy? How will it impact you/your work? What long-term effects do you think the controversy will be?

Much thanks all,
Disassembling a large file, moving it, and reassembling it on another machine

I have a large .iso file to transport. If I split the file and burn it onto two DVDs, can I combine them again once they're on the target machine? How? I have a large (8.55 GB) .iso of program files which I'd like to burn for transport and installation onto another computer. I gather this requires splitting the file into two parts so it will fit onto two DVDs. I'm in the process of splitting and burning it now (using winrar), but I am not sure what to do with the data to make it installable once I get it onto the target machine. Is there a way to recombine the two parts into the original huge .iso file? If so, I could probably mount it with daemon tools or something and install it this way... Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

[side note: I am asking this question on behalf of a friend. Not that I'd be embarrassed to ask the same question myself!]

Installing Windows 7 on a MBP with a non-working DVD drive

How can I install Windows 7 (via Boot Camp or rEFIt) from an ISO?
I think the Superdrive on my Macbook Pro (10.5.6) is on its last legs, because it ejects almost anything I put in it. (Meaning blank DVDs, and the DVD I burned of the ISO on my Windows XP desktop with ImgBurn). It's not extremely old (I got it refurbished on Christmas 2007), but still old enough to be out of warranty (at least I would think so).

What I have available:
1tb My Book Firewire External Hard Drive
4gb 1st gen iPod Nano, that isn't even formatted as an iPod right now, so it's basically just a 4gb USB flash drive. I know I can boot from it if it's set up right, because I've been using it with this What I've tried so far:
I can't restore the iPod to the ISO in Disk Utility, so I tried to convert the ISO to a DMG (in Disk Utility and using a program called Converso), getting errors both times.

I tried mounting the ISO, erasing everything on the iPod, and copying everything straight out of the ISO to the iPod, but it doesn't appear as anything bootable.

Please help if you can

Ripping video from ISO

Is there a program to rip just the main video from an ISO file? I've been backing up most of my DVD collection to my computer as ISOs. Now I've started also putting them on my iPod. The only problem is with several of the movies I don't have the DVD any more (various reasons such as lending it out and such) and only have the ISO. Any good programs to rip just the movie without having to re-burn the DVD? I'd prefer the programs to be free, but it's not required. I also only want the movie, not any of the extras. I am already using VLC Player to play the ISOs so please don't just tell me ways to play the ISO, I want ways to rip from it.

Extracting phantom files from old CDRW

I have a legacy CDRW which shows up empty when mounted in either Linux or Windows. Extracting an iso image under linux via dd yields greppable strings which indicate files are hiding inside. How do I extract the files without knowing what format or filesystem they are in? Mounting the iso as a loop device in Linux yields no listable files. This disc is from ~2000. I assume the final FAT written to the disc is either corrupt or unreadable but files are written earlier on the disc. Is there a "file boundary guesser" that I can pipe the ISO to, which will spit out the possible files?

Guide to operations of cargo containers?

About six months ago I found a German website (English language) with an excellent guide to the various types of ISO cargo containers, their specifications/schematics and operational tips of how to load and secure cargo. I've lost the link and can't find it again... The website contained either a very large PDF (about 45MB?) or a set of PDFs about the various types of ISO cargo containers. There were illustrations and schematics of "do" and "don't" examples for various types of bulk or packaged cargo. It was primarily concerned with standard 20', 40' and 45' containers but also covered tank containers, flatbed, side-opening, open-top and other common types.

I do remember it was definitely published by a group somewhere in western Europe, and free for everyone to download and read.

The organization publishing the guide was some sort of non-profit / quasi governmental agency, or a umbrella organization run by a group of Insurance companies. Its goal seemed to be to teach companies how to efficiently and safely use ISO cargo containers. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Please help me find the link...

Where's the simplicity?

Swapping a car's stereo head unit: I would really like to replace my car's ailing Blaupunkt CD player with a more modern head unit, ideally one with a front aux-in for my iPhone. Before I embarked on this I thought it would (should!) be as simple as popping out the old HU, slotting the new one in and simply reconnecting the connector block. But it seems the process is rarely that simple. My car, a 96 Mazda 626, does not seem to have the pretty wiring harnesses to be seen in many online tutorials. It looks exactly like this.

A friend said that all aftermarket stereos connect to the car's wiring harness via an ISO connector so I presumed that as my stereo is almost certainly aftermarket the hard work was already done for me. But having bought the removal keys and had a look behind the stereo it doesn't look like it.

What are my options? I would dearly love to avoid soldering, splicing and dicing and have a nice clean solution involving adaptors or the straightforward swap I hoped for.

I guess if I buy another Blaupunkt then I can just swap head units? There are two connectors even though only the brown topmost can be seen in the picture. Do Blaupunkts continue to use this setup?

I've tried asking at the12volt and installdr, but without much success!

Any help appreciated!

What's the best way of distributing a DVD over the Internet?

What's the best way of distributing a DVD over the Internet? I'm thinking probably bittorrent for transmission, but what format? ISO? A set of VOBs, etc.? Basically, I decided to make a DVD of some of the excellent TED Talks to give to a friend - I figured a DVD would be better as it wouldn't require him to sit in front of his computer to watch them.

As the TED Talks are creative commons, I thought other people on t'Internet might like a copy and so I'm looking at how to share it with everyone.

I'm trying to make it easy for people to use (it's going to be tricky enough if they have to install a bittorrent client), so want to distribute it in a format that can be burnt to DVD easily on Windows, Mac and Linux. Preferably where I can provide a short set of instructions and pointers to suitable software for each platform.

The easiest for me would be a mirror of the DVD structure - so AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders containing .VOB files - but I've also come across ISO files or .CUE/.BIN files.

Which should I pick? (and if it's one of the latter, does anyone have any recommendations for software to create them on Windows XP?)

You can't hide forever, Baal!

So I have a scratched CD with a few corrupt files, and access to the files that I need on another PC...can I combine these somehow to create a working CD or image with which to install/use my program? The program is Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction (the expansion). Yeah, I'm a nerd. Anyway, the original game installs fine, and I own a perfectly legal copy of the expansion, but the disc is scratched to hell, so the install hangs trying to copy two files (d2exp.mpq and d2xtalk, if it matters). These won't copy to the desktop, either, so I assume they're just gone. I can hop on an ancient PC that lives in the closet and pull these files off via thumb drive, however, so I have access to good copies of the files that are corrupted.

The installer, unfortunately, insists on copying over whatever's in the directory, so just tossing those files into the install directory before the installer starts trying to copy doesn't work, it still tries to copy the files and hangs. Worse yet, copying the files into the directory makes the launcher think the expansion is already installed, so it won't let me try to install over/install the rest. Long story short, I think I need to somehow replace the files on the CD with the good versions. I can get all of the other files off of the CD by copy/paste, but taking an image of the whole CD fails because of those bad files.

Is there some way for me to successfully create an image with all working files that should work? I'd really like not to have to go out and buy a new expansion, and torrenting it is pretty much out of the question due to bandwidth issues. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Converting various video files to DVD

I have an assortment of .WMV/.MPG/.AVI files that I'd like to convert to .ISO so I can burn them to a DVD. Please suggest the best free/cheap program that can accomplish this. Just for the record, I'm currently using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter to create disc images and burn them - so once I get an .ISO, I know what to do with it. I'd also be open to alternative methods to burning such files besides creating an .ISO. Thanks.

My external hard drive claims to be full, but it's not! When I right-click on my hard drive and click "Properties," the hard drive reports that it has 70+ gigs of free space left.

Dragging and droping files onto it works fine, except for two ISO's. When I try to drag those ISOs over, I get an error message saying that there is no more room left on the hard drive. The ISOs are each less than 10 GB. I've tried moving one at a time, then together, both without any success.

How do I get those two files onto the hard drive? Why is this happening?

Help me create a source image for a tattoo. I'm thinking about getting inked with the ANSI standard warning logo. The best image I have found to base this on is here. I only want it in monochrome -- don't need the colored background.

Would this image be enough for a tattoo artist to create a decent bicep tattoo off of? Should I find one larger? If so... where? I've been unable to do so after an extended period of searching, even using the applicable ANSI and ISO standards for such things as search terms.

Why does my Vietnamese text only display correctly in the US?

How does a web browser decide whether it can display a numerical character reference? I have a web page that is available in English and Vietnamese. I use numerical character references for the Vietnamese characters that fall outside the ISO-8859-1 character set (which is the document character set). On my machine at home, this seems to work fine. But I hear from users in Vietnam that it's all messed up. I know they have fonts capable of displaying the characters.

Due to database issues beyond my control, I cannot store the Vietnamese text directly in UTF-8. If I change the output document encoding to UTF-8, the characters from character references get mangled even on my machine. What gives? I thought character references were independent of a document's encoding, referring directly to HTML's ISO-10646 roots?

Is there anything I can do, given that these characters must be stored as references?

Desperately Seeking Suse (Linux)

I need to find a source for DVD Suse ISOs. I'm looking for Suse version 10 or 10.1, and the ISO must be on a DVD. I don't mess with CD ISOs anymore.

Further, no Eval versions, and I don't want the Live DVD, I want the Install DVD. And no Betas.

A torrent is fine, as long as it's still being seeded. I know that the 10.1 DVD isn't due out until 1 week from today, but I'm thinking that maybe someone has already made a DVD and has posted the ISO somewhere.

OpenSuse is fine with me, but I can't seem to get their download page to let me see Version 10 downloads. It's all 10.1 now, and no DVD install ISO there.

I Googled around quite a bit, but it's all Betas, LiveDVDs, and Eval versions.

Please, help a budding Linux geek out!

What's wrong with my DVD-Shrink settings?

What's wrong with my DVD-Shrink settings? I want to produce a single ISO file, instead of a handful. On my old PC I rip a DVD with DVD-Decryptor and then use DVD-Shrink to backup the content to a single .ISO file, which I can then burn. On my new computer DVD-Shrink always seems to create a series of 5 or so ISO files (.IS1, .IS2, .IS3 etc) instead of a single .iso which I want. I can't figure out where the settings differ on the two computers. Any insight will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Free ear training CD images

I want to do ear-training while driving to and from work. Several $20+ books come with CD's but I am just positive there is a free CD image somewhere I can make my own with. Anyone? I have found plenty of software but really want a non-interactive audio CD so I don't have a wreck when learning intervals.

backing up psx with os x

How do I make backups of playstation (psx) games I own with OS X? I was given a "chipped" playstation, and I've been buying cheap originals at the local Rhino games. I want to back them up so that my kids (ages 8, 5, 4, 1.5) can trash the copies rather than the master copies. I'm not trying to be sneaky pirate guy. In fact, bittorrenting psx games is more trouble than it's worth when they are seven bucks for a used cd.

Why can't I burn a Knoppix DVD ISO on a WinXP laptop?

I'm trying to burn the Knoppix 4.0 DVD ISO on my wife's second-hand Averatec Windows XP laptop. I have tried almost a dozen DVD burning programs without success. Most of them can't see there's a blank DVD in the drive. What's up? It seems to be at least partly an ASPI thing, but I went to Adaptec, got the drivers, installed them, and now their utility says the laptop is up to date. (ASPI was completely missing before.) I've tried both DVD+R and DVD-R with identical results. Even Microsoft's own dvdburn.exe command-line utility can't see the drive. FWIW, we have burned CDs with no problem, and DVD burning software came with the machine, so it's capable in theory.

I'm really lost here. I hate Windows. I'd burn the DVD on my latest Linux box, except that the DVD drive is currently occupied by a Knoppix CD, which can't be removed while the computer is running. The plan is to burn the Knoppix DVD somewhere else, so I can boot from that instead of the CD, and install it forevermore. Your assistance in this enterprise would be appreciated.

Let's say I want store DVDs on my hard drive, and access them. I don't need the extras, just the movies/tv shows that are on there. Is there a piece of media access hardware that will (1) pull from ISOs of DVDs on another computer networked, or (2) allow me to stream video I rip from a DVD, and what software would I use to rip said DVD to a usable file. All legal DVDs and all that.

Does anyone know where I can find an .ISO (or equivalent) copy of Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum's install CD? The drivers all over the web are made for use after the original install. I called Creative and the CD will arrive in a few weeks. I have googled for the last week, no dice. I hope this is not too specific. Goddamn! I found it. Heres the site everybody:
