Not too long ago, I had the opportunity to see these two films:
Café Transit, and Buddha Collapsed Out of Shame, which I greatly enjoyed. I was wondering if anyone could recommend me similarly enjoyable films, irrespective of country of origin.

In 2006, Norwegian petroleum company
Statoil was ordered by a US court to pay $21M in fines for breaking the
Foreign Corrupt Practices Act when
paying bribes to an Iranian public servant.
While Statoil's primary listing is with the Oslo stock exchange, it is also listed with the NYSE. To what extent is Statoil's activities outside of the US subjected to US law?

If there is an attack on Iran – by Israel/USA/an alliance of some kind, doesn't matter for purposes of this question – and, presumably, the price of oil rises sharply, which kinds of shares will rise with it? Oil companies? Energy supply companies? Food retailers? None of these? General and specific recommendations or thoughts welcomed. I know you are not my financial adviser.

My mom seems to be under the opinion that Hitler and Nazi Germany were 'fans' of Persia/Iran, and that one of the reasons the Shah at the time changed the name of the country from Persia to Iran (meaning "Land of the Aryans"), was to appease Hitler. I can't find any evidence to support this claim. Can someone clear this up for me?

What's an interesting aspect of Iranian society/ Shi'i Islam that would lend itself well to a 10 page expository essay? Nothing too controversial - my professor is Iranian. Just something interesting to write/ learn about.
It has to be pretty specific. Thanks for suggestions!

[Iran_Minutiae_Filter] I heard a few days ago that Former President Rafsanjani was going up to Qum to see if the Assembly of Experts had the votes to remove Ayatollah Khamanei from the position of Supreme Leader. How long would something like that take to happen? Would it have happened already if they had the votes?

How much authority does the Iranian President have? Basically I'd like to know more about the Iranian government system? How does the guardian counsel work? Is it sort of like a supreme court? Does it come up with it's own laws? How often does it get involved in non-religious issues? Also, how much political discussion is allowed in Iran? I know the Iranian constitution allows free speech "except where it contradicts Islam" Does that forbid criticism of the guardian counsel? What about the president?

I'm an American composer with no training in Persian music -- just a deep love for it and a gradually improving (self-taught) structural understanding of it. My "more inside" lists some ideas I've had so far, but I would love to hear any suggestions of CDs, websites, books, etc., on Persian music and/or the santur.

Can anyone supply links to further information regarding Atefe Rajabi, a young woman
reported to have been judicially murdered in Neka, Iran? The original sources were not authoritative, and I've been hoping this might turn out to be propaganda.
Iranfilter remains silent on the subject.
The story was energetically
discussed in the Blue and I'm sure we agree the Green is not the place to reprise that conversation. I'm just looking for more and, I hope, better information.
