A few years ago I heard a popular scientist on the radio discussing the effects of listening to music via earbud headphones. He said that if someone can hear the music I'm listening to, I am doing permanent damage to my ears. Is this true?

What are some of the best writing applications for the ipod touch?

Decent iPad/iPod cables? iPad and iPod usb cables infuriate me. The cables invariably fray at the connector junction, and the cable coating on several has simply disintegrated. Is there anywhere I can get solid iStuff cables that won't need replaced every 3 months? Preferably with some sort of reinforcement at the connector junctions? An Amazon search just gives me miles of what I presume is junk.

I am looking for a new Aux-In Cable (3.5mm, male to male) to use my mp3 player in my car. I had a couple of cheaper retractable ones, but they usually break after a short period of use. I live in a cold climate and the cord gets cold in the car for long periods of time and I think this has an affect on its life.
I have seen some people with thicker aux-in cables in their car and I have searched, but I can't seem to locate one for a decent price.
Does anyone know where I might be able to buy a thick (preferably white, but not critical) 3.5mm Aux-in cable?

I have 300gb of music, a house, several Mac laptops, a Mac G5, a router, two iphones, an ipad, and several external HDs where the music is stored. I would like to be able to play music anywhere in my house, control it wirelessly without the laptops and update libraries as well as all my devices with whatever I like anywhere in the house, without having to drag out the external USB HD to plug into various laptops like I do now. I'm willing to buy equipment to let this happen. Bonus if it lets me move movies onto a USB stick to plug into my nifty new tv. Details under the fold.

Is there a remote that CONTROLS the music on the iPhone (4s)? Google searches reveal only how to use the phone as a remote for other things. I need to keep the iPhone hooked up to a speaker in the back of the room, and trigger it with *something* to make the music go on and off. Any ideas??? Thanks!

I have a long (11 hour each way) drive coming up (NY to NC) next week. I am a pretty seasoned distance driver (many two-day TX to Toronto drives), but I am going by myself (with 2 dogs) and I need something to keep me sane and awake. I would love to have some This American Life or CarTalk or the like podcasts to listen to but...while I am nothing like a tech/net n00b, I confess that I don't really know how this podcast thing works to get past episodes. A few days ago syncing my iPod Touch with iTunes deleted all but its original apps (My fault for not noticing that the list of apps in iTunes had, for some reason, reverted to the factory defaults). While slowly restoring my purchased apps via the App Store App>Updates>Purchased, I noticed that ad-supported Instapaper was no longer listed. Googling 'Instapaper Free' told me that the ad-supported version was removed from iTunes and support discontinued sometime in April of this year. This has led me to several questions:

While reading the
iPod anniversary post, I remembered that I had a 2nd-gen iPod tucked away. It only has a Firewire port. My Macbook is long retired. I use Google Calendar with the iPod's Calendar app. Whenever I change what calendar an event is found in (from School to Work, for example), it does so successfully on the iPod, but the next time I log in to Google Calendar, that event is in both calendars.
