Looking for an iOS app that will let me set up a table (of dice scores and results), then roll on that table by pushing a button. For example, I might set up a table 'FOO': 1-2 = A, 3-4 = B, 5-6 = C. I could then push the FOO button, and it'd roll a d6 and give me A, B or C. Does this sort of thing exist?
Can anyone update the answers to this question about viewing the Google maps I've created (My Maps, My Places, or whatever it's called now) on an iPhone? [more inside]
The refurbished area of the Apple Store is full of iPads (+Cellular) for all the major carriers...except T-Mobile. It seems they've been out of stock for a long time. Are T-Mobile users just extra careful? Is there some kind of different restocking policy in place at TMO? [more inside]
I have an ipad 1 which I still really enjoy. However, I'm noticing more and more apps don't work for seemingly no reason other than the developers are choosing not to support the iPad 1. Since I've got reduced capabilities I'm thinking about installing Android or jail breaking or something else. What would you recommend?
The CEO of a small business that is one of my clients insists on "signing all the checks" – he likes to keep an eye on everything that is being purchased and all money that is being spent. The accounting department would like to help modernize the process, and he's on board with signing them online, using a touch screen device. (He wants to use his iPhone, he does have an iPad, too.) My house is filled with small reporter notebooks filled with notes/interview records for writing projects I've worked on. I've gone electronic in all of my other paperwork, and it has changed my life. How can I do the same with my notebooks? [more inside]
After a couple years of never seeing this, I try to load Gmail on an iPad2 (with the latest, fully updated OS), the blue, site-loading bar zips from left to right very, very quickly -- twice once in a while -- and the screen below the toolbar stays blank. Reloading gets nothing done. (I can get to Gmail just fine via the app, on my laptop, etc.) I've looked around a good bit, found no helpful information. Anyone know how to sort this? Big thanks for any help you can provide.
My company recently issued iPads to my colleagues and me. Most of us are pretty happy about it, because, among other things, they will replace a lot of paper we had to lug around. There is a vocal minority, however, that fears the iPads will allow the company to track us, even when they're turned off. [more inside]
I'm tagging along on a research trip to a biological field station in the Bahamas. While I'm there, I'd like to use my iPad to shoot some video of the researchers doing their respective things. How would you turn an iPad 2 into a lean, mean, field-video-recording machine? [more inside]
My toddler son is finally of an age where the iPad and youtube are beginning to be a big draw. This is great, but I'd like to have some good guidelines from the start that allow him some screentime but prevent it from taking over too much of his life. I'm looking for a sense of what others have found works and doesn't work for them. [more inside]

I use Pages on an Ipad Mini: yesterday I found that all of my documents had suddenly disappeared - Pages was just showing 'no documents'. All the software is up to date, but there have been no major changes or traumatic events recently. There were about a dozen documents, mainly very small but a couple of large ones. What I typically do is switch Word documents over from a PC via Google Drive in order to fiddle with bits of drafting while on the train. I therefore have recent copies of everything, so the actual loss is merely a little irritating; but I don't want it happening again. Any ideas about what could have caused this?
What Android or Windows 8 pen-equipped tablet should I buy for reading scientific papers, writing scientific papers, and taking notes? (Or is the app selection for the iPad sufficiently amazing that I should let it override my distaste for Apple's walled garden and the iPad's lack of an active digitizer stylus?) [more inside]
How can I prevent the default iPhone mail.app from showing ALL my emails in the inbox as well as in their respective folders? [more inside]
Sort of riffing on my earlier question regarding Amazon's dark corners of industrial and scientific equipment--I'm hoping you can hook me up with fun niche catalogs in PDF format for browsing on my iPad. [more inside]

My wife wants to buy a laptop that also converts to a tablet. She needs a good typing laptop for work (15 inch screen, nice keyboard) but she also dreams of using the tablet portion for sketching (like they do on Project Runway). She is not an artist; she just wants to draw a bit. I am concerned that the laptop/tablet combo will be less than ideal. I have heard that these tablets are not as sensitive as an ipad, and I am wondering what software she would use that would be better or as cheap as a $10 app. I think she should get a cheap laptop along with a used iPad. Does anyone have any firsthand experience one way or another? [more inside]
I purchased a template that adapts to the device it is being viewed on. It works as it should on all devices I've tested it on except that when viewed on an iPad - specifically in portrait - the top menu disappears. When viewed in landscape, it is fine. Link to the (totally SFW) template running on my server after the jump. [more inside]
I've been using Chrome on my Mac and Safari on my iPad Air. Trying to get them both to sync with each other is a challenge. I used a Safari on Mac for a short while recently to keep the two perfectly in sync but I've since switched back to a Chrome on my Mac as it is just a quicker and nicer to use browser. On my iPad Air I've installed Chrome but nothing beats Safari on the iPad as it's smoother and uses a faster rendering engine. Chrome on iOS is a bit sluggish and doesn't feel comfortable to use. Is there a way that I can sync my Chrome bookmarks and settings on my Mac with Safari on my iPad?
I'm beginning development of first iOS app and I aim to know as much as I can about what I don't know about app development. [more inside]
My SO will be getting an iPad mini for Christmas. They currently have an iPhone 4 with various Apps. Is there automatic or easy method of figuring what iPhone Apps have iPad mini equivalents and auto transferring them to the iPad mini, even if it requires paying for the new App?
I want the forward/back controls in my browser on iPad to be at the bottom of the screen, same as they are on my iPhone. I don't see any way to do this in Safari or Chrome. My thumb insists on doing it the iPhone way (and quite logically because that's where my thumb already is while holding the device). It is driving me crazy. Please tell me there's a way.
Flying in the face of scientists' warnings, my wife and I allow our child to play with the iPad from time to time. She's outgrown most of the apps she previously played with -- does anyone have any recommendations for good puzzle, games, and educational apps that would be age-appropriate and interesting for a twenty-month-old? Thanks.
I have an iphone. Today I will be getting a MotoX. I don't really know a lot about smartphones in general or Android in general (or hell, even ios really) except that I assume there are going to be a few hiccups in the transition. Help me avoid those hiccups! [more inside]

I'm looking for an app for my 1st gen iPad (iOS 5) that can play soundfonts and respond to a USB midi keyboard plugged in via the Camera Connection Kit. Ideally I could also set it up to fade between two different soundfonts via the keyboard's mod wheel (perhaps by mapping it as a pan control). Is there such a thing? [more inside]

In spring of 2014 I will be getting an iPhone 5S. I cannot figure out how to get a plan that includes tethering so I can generate wifi for my non-cellular iPad mini. What will I need to do to activate that during my order (I am switching from Verizon to AT&T) and how do I find out how much it will cost in addition to my unlimited talk/text plus XGB of data? I have already contacted customer support and they have given me the same unhelpful stuff that's on the AT&T website.

So, a patron at my library wants to read our e-books on his old ipad. The ipad can only be uppgraded to ios 5.1.1 because it's from the first generation. The app we usually recommend (bluefire reader, I´m in Sweden so no overdrive-model here) requires ios 6.0. The app must be able to manage epub with DRM. Does anyone know if such an app exists?
I have an iphone and an ipad which I use daily. Due to work policies, my data is setup via Outlook (not Exchange) and synced via iTunes to both devices. I use iCloud to maintain mirrored info for websites, pictures, etc but NOT contacts. I'm getting tired of having to plug both devices in to sync them to the same data. Is there anyway to use iTunes to sync to my phone and then use iCloud to maintain data integrity across to the ipad? Or will this end up giving me duplicates in my Outlook contacts?
