I want to create a legal document declaring in robust legalese that all of my intellectual property (except works specifically noted) shall enter the public domain upon my death and a website to host (or link to p2p copies of) archives of those works. I want the legal documents to make it easy for other people to use or adapt for themselves and ideally for the site to act as a host or tracker for them to post to. I'm seeking legal and technical advice as well as general input in order to make this happen. [more inside]

It's fund drive time, and I have been a contributor and a host promoting fund drives for public and community radio. But a common complaint I hear from people is public radio encourages them to do their part, meaning contribute. The promise is the sooner you do, the sooner the drive will end. [more inside]

I have 6 websites on the same server with the same IP and the same server configuration, yet I can see just four of them via the address bar; two I can only see if I use a proxy server to browse to them.
I have tried flushing the IP, to no avail - is there something else I can do myself, or should I file a ticket with my semi-helpful webhost because this is a server problem?

Rookie question perhaps...
What more wires in a CAT5 cable other than TX+ TX- RX+ RX- does a standard IP phone use?
I ask because I had one cable run where the PC had 100% connectivity, but when I plugged in an IP phone to the same run, it would not receive an IP (PC was DHCP as well but it shouldn't matter) and resolve to the network. I finally re-punched the wall plate and patch panel and it worked like a charm. I have been combing the web for an answer on this, and the best I found that the phone may require additional wires in the cable if it is PoE, which this particular run is not Powered.
Head scratcher for me...maybe someone out there has an answer!
Thank you :)

Some TV shows (and movies, and novels) go out of their way to avoid mentioning real-life brands. This video
shows countless mentions of faux social networks: Friendbranch, Facefinder, Friendnet, etc etc, rather than Facebook. But others freely portray real-life companies when they want to. How come? [more inside]

I need some help on networking and ip addresses. I'm working on a project that uses a RN-XV Wifly module to connect to a home's wifi network. To use the device you will have a GUI that on the back-end telnets to the Wifly module and sends a serial string of commands. So if the Wifly address is 10.1.0.17, it would send: [more inside]

Please help me design a method for using an old iPhone to make and receive calls on my current AT&T wireless number by WiFi, preferably for free. Ideally, I would like to have this old iPhone (without service), sitting on my desk, ringing when calls come into my current AT&T number, and when I make outgoing calls via Wifi, the caller ID shows my current number. The reason is primarily that AT&T coverage is horrible inside my house, so the ability to do this by wifi at home would be great. But I hate the confusion created when you make outgoing calls and the number is different. I can think of very convoluted ways to do it, so I'm asking you smarties if you have a better way.

I have a question about patents in relationship to "improved" seeds and plant materials (my knowledge of IP law and plant breeding is pretty limited). I'm trying to understand more precisely the terms of ownership of these agreements. For example, I understand there are reach-through provisions that exclude materials from being used for purposes other than research. I also understand that many biotech firms are not interested in plant materials that contain technologies not already part of their IP portfolios. Please direct me to resources that will help me understand the terms of ownership -- how "property," in this case is information, is made explicit with these agreements.

IP question for associate*: 2 person office, once larger and set up with a server and bunch of static IP addresses. The server is no longer being used. Company website is hosted off site. Is there any reason to have these static IP addresses? Connected with email in any way?
.....*"IP" in my case stands for Ignorant Person... ie. I never have understood what IP addresses are all about and how it works with regard to a company. Hence my question. [more inside]

How do I refresh someone else's IP? I can't load a specific site I usually access every day when I am connected to my home ISP, although I can get to the site when I'm at work and on my smartphone. Absolutely NONE of my browsers can load the site, even those which I've never uised to visit the site before. When I contacted my ISP tonight, the tech said that he could access the same site from his computer, so it doesn't appear to be a DNS issue there. I have no problems loading any other sites on my browsers. What gives? [more inside]

I was wondering if there was some tool I could use in Win XP to monitor the network traffic on my PC when using IE to access the webcam, to get the full URLs to the audio and video feeds. All the tools I have used so far just give me the IP address and port, not the full http address.
