In the Olympics, when an American athlete finishes competing, cameras show up in their faces, and the athlete gets interviewed. If they won, then they get to talk about the win. If they lost, then they get to talk about how it felt to lose out there in front of 40 million viewers. Here is the question: What obligation does the athlete have to participate in the interviews? What is it that stops them from saying 'screw this' and skipping the interview? [more inside]
I am in the application process for a really awesome job, and I just found out I have my second phone interview on Monday afternoon. Yay! It's a producing job at a start up web content company, and based on the first call, they're going to want to hire someone who can move data from cameras (sounds like I would be mostly working with DSLRs) into Final Cut Pro and prepare it for editing. I currently work in TV, where this job belongs to the assistant editors, and I don't even know how to begin to figure out this process. Please give me some weekend reading material to help me figure out if this is something I could quickly learn how to do. Thank you! [more inside]

I have a job interview tomorrow afternoon. I've got my suit all ready. The problem is that I had surgery recently and I'm in a full leg brace and crutches. Should I put the brace over my pants or under them? I don't know even know if the brace will actually fit under the pants, though; it's pretty bulky with a huge metal hinge and several thick velcro straps. Will wearing it on the outside of dress trousers look ridiculous?

First of all, let me say I am thankful for getting a phone interview offer....read on and apologies for the ramble and poor writing style here. Please bear with me here for a bit. I had a job interview in a city I had hoped to move back to two weeks ago, and didn't get it. Like most others applicants, I prepared very well and studied, talked to myself, etc. so, it is what it is. I desire to get back to this place where my wife's family and my friends are and where I have lived for 15 years (Indianapolis). I've been extremely stressed out, have anxiety problems but have meds to help. [more inside]

It it unwise to bank on a prospective employer not calling my references unless I am interviewed? I'm applying for a job that is admittedly a long shot, and I’d rather not call and ask people to be my references unless I am actually in the running (for various snowflake reasons detailed at length within). Is it a horrendous faux pas to list references without asking their permission, if I'm fairly certain I won’t get called for an interview? On the other hand, is it a horrendous faux pas not to send references with my resume and cover letter, when the job posting specifically asks for them? [more inside]

I have a two part question. I've just interviewed well known performer who has just released his first solo CD. He owns all of the rights to the lyrics and music, and his own company published the CD. A radio station I'm associated with plans to put the interview online, as well as broadcast it within the week. If the musician is OK with me putting it on my own website, how might it drive traffic to his site and my site? And is there anything extra I can to make it attract listeners and drive that traffic? There was a study a few years back where they had two people meet and discuss a list of questions. The control pairs got a basic set of superficial interview questions (what's your name, do you have siblings, where are you from) and the other got a specially designed set of questions that increasingly went into meaningful, personal topics. At the end, pairs in the test group tended to report a deep bond with their partner and went on to become friends after the study. Can you find me the study and/or the questions?

I want to send a post-interview thank you email but I am a little unclear as to the best way of going about it. I had five 30 minute sessions with one to two employees each; the last session was with the head of the group I'd be working for. Should I send one email to all employees, an email to each session group, an email to only the senior interviewers (3 people), or some other iteration?
