I have a bug with my networking on OSX Mountain Lion, Put simply after an indeterminate, randomish amount of time (from 30 minutes to 10 hours) my laptop will simply stop loading or fetching new websites. This happens both over wired and wireless networks - In both cases the connection will appear to still be connected, but loading a webpage will just hang on "sending request" and a traceroute to google.com which works fine beforehand, just fails (nothing in terminal after the command). I've struggled but can't find much indication at all about this bug on the internet - can anyone help me fix this problem? [more inside]

I've started getting emails "from" people in my contacts list. The email is from their name, but with an email address that is not theirs and is different each time. I have an address with a local internet provider, not gmail or yahoo. Do I have a virus my antivirus hasn't caught? How can I fix it?
We just moved and sadly our cable Internet provider cant make it out to set up our Internet for another two weeks. We have already tried Clear.com and the local DSL and do not want to go back to those. We both have androids with unlimited data plans as well as an iPad with a data plan. What I would like more than anything is to somehow connect my WiiU and our desktop computers to the Internet through one of our mobile devices, but I just don't know how. Can anyone walk a noob through this task?

I'm using my first smartphone ever -- a secondhand iPhone 4 - on a prepaid plan. I generally leave cellular data turned off because most of my day is spent in range of WiFi, and because data transmission on my otherwise cheap prepaid plan is very expensive: $0.99/MB. I have no idea how much data is transmitted in the course of typical online activities. What's it take to, say, download a few emails, perform a Google search or open a basic, non-video-laden web page?

In order for any web site to charge one for services or goods, in this case services, what are they legally required to record and produce? I'm having a little trouble wording my exact question so maybe this will help. The web site in question provides phone service for inmates in correctional facilities and in order for one to receive calls from a loved one in the correctional facility you have to set up an account and attach a phone number to it while loading money for the overpriced service... $5 for 15mins. The company charged me a fee of $5 every time I was to load money on the account which did not show the rate for a call per min and also charged me numerous unknown fees. I could not tell why or how much I was charged which was made worse by their not being a way to track credits and charges to the account. When I contacted customer support they also could not account for the charges and would not refund them, refused to refund my visa purchase, and claims to have no way of producing charges and credits to my account. Their customer service is no help and I'm not sure how to handle the situation. [more inside]

Are there options to add internet to a place that isn't wired for cable/broadband and doesn't have a phone line? The marina where I keep my sailboat does not have cable or telephone lines installed at the docks. I want to be able to use the internet while I am staying on my boat. Are there technology options available so that I can make this happen? What is the general connectivity speed of those options? Many thanks!

Why would my ISP routing Google traffic differently? What is traffic-shaping, and why is it considered "questionable" for an ISP to do this? I'm on Vancouver Island, in Canada. My ISP is Shaw, and everyone on Shaw on Vancouver Island experienced some issues with Google domains including YouTube and G+ for most of the day. Here's a thread where users are discussing the problem. In the thread I linked above, some folks are saying that there must have been either a critical failure, or "they're traffic-shaping or otherwise filtering results from Google-based websites. That's highly questionable behaviour." What does this mean? While I had internet connectivity, I couldn't access Gmail or Google Search, and ended up using my Telus phone's WiFi hotspot to work (we all work remotely and use Google Apps).

My DSL internet connection went kaput on Thursday. I rebooted my modem with the help of my ISP and all was well for a few hours. I figured it was my ancient modem that finally died. So, I pick up a new modem and plug it in and nothing happens. All the lights light up, my ipod touch and laptop see my wireless network but there's connection. I plug directly into the modem via ethernet cable and still nothing. [more inside]

I have an iMac using Snow Leopard. I use my apartment public w-fi and it has worked fine up to a few months back.
