I have a blog at http://depravedlibrarian.blogspot.com (I've also registerd the domain and will eventually put up a forwarding page). I misstyped this in the location bar: http://depravedlibrarian.blogpsot.com and found that registrant for this site and all the other Amazingbiblestudies sites (I checked 3 other Blogger address) is the same registrant. While it's not exactly domain hijacking, what can I, or should I do about this? How else can I get the word out about this? Thanks for your suggestions.

I'd like to setup a webstore/portal script for local bands to sell their merchandise on. Can anyone recommend a solution? I'd prefer it to be LAMP based if possible.
I remember once seeing a neighbor-search utility. One could enter an address and find who lived nearby. It wasn't fundrace. Can anyone point me to it?
Can anyone provide me with the origin of the word "meh"? I mean, yeah, definition-wise, it almost undoubtedly comes from "ehh." [more inside]

I have a domain name "x" hosted by Cedant and get lots of email there. I also have qwest.net dsl service at home. I want to get my domain name email in outlook express at home. I know to do this I need access to a POP3 server from Qwest.net (right?). Qwest wants an extra $20 a month over the $50 I pay for DSL for this (thieves!) How can I get the mail from my domain host to my outlook express for free (ie is there a free POP3 server or something that allows me to bypass Qwest and the $20 shakedown?)
My identical twin sister is getting married in September. I'm throwing her a party for the foreign relatives that can't attend in June. After that June party I'll be visiting a long time dear friend from the 'net to see how we get along, and if it works out I'll be moving there in September. The problem is, my sister doesn't approve of what I am doing - in a very patronizing and closed minded way - and I am honour bound to celebrate her wedding and be supportive and positive, without regard to her attitude about my joyous event. I have been using 2 methods to generate my web galleries: Picasa to Blogger.com or the web gallery tool within PhotoShop 8cs. The Picasa is nice, but displaying the images in blogger sucks- the images are all in one VERY long column. Photoshop's templates suck, and the resize has limitations on size. Is there an easier way to take my full res images, resize them, enter description, then publish to a html table format?
I have an 11 year old son who is active in a couple of Yu-Gi-Oh message boards. There are a group of people who frequent these places and post inappropriate web links on occasion. One time, someone posted a porn site disguised as a harmless link. Doing that seems like there is a some kind of law being broken yet I did not know where to turn to report it (yeah, like going to the city police will really help...pppthhh). Another time, someone posted this link (this just can't be legal): http://www.bonsaikitten.com/ My kid was very upset about the bonzai kitty thing and the porn. I want to be able to do something about this but do not know what, where, how. I am wondering if there is an online mechanism to turn to. These Yu-Gi-Oh sites are otherwise great for my kid and I do not want to restrict his access just because of a few perv's and/or freaks.

When I have a question, I ask it. Simple enough, right? Are there any psychological/educational repercussions to having endless access to information? Are we becoming less intelligent because we are not seeking answers for ourselves, and instead relying on the vast database of knowledge on the Internet to answer questions that could be better answered via actual physical reasoning? It seems that I remember there being a "term" for this phenomenon - if it actually exists. Any help? [more inside]

I'm minding my own business when my Panther 10.3 Finder stops behaving on my Mac. It now takes many times longer to load and won't connect to the Internet, not even with a Comcast wizard. I have this vague understanding that I'm supposed to wipe out Finder prefs. Is this right? Is it crazy to think the Finder bug is relevant to the sudden lack of connectivity? [more inside]
Does anyone know why MCI would be in favor of regulating cable modems in the Brand X case recently before the Supreme Court? I can't think of a compelling technical or business reason why they'd do that. [more inside]
Anybody have a clue what's going on at BovineUnite.com? Billboards started showing up here in the Baltimore area a week or so ago. The site is registered locally, but the execution of the site seems too good to be just some local prank. So far, the only Google reference to the site is a Craigslist ad looking for people to travel around Maryland wearing the cowsuit. What are they advertising? Skim milk? Chick-Fil-A?
Is there any good reason why I can't put a fake address and phone number in my domain registration info? [more inside]
ecommerce software directions say: "chmod 644 etc/config.php chmod 755 ." I set set chmod 644 for the first folder. What is "."? In other words, how do I "chmod 755 ." from above? This is ecommerce software, so permissions probably are more important than usual. I just had a hard time finding what the "." refers to when googling.
I run bittorrent (for legal files only, of course), but when I do, it tends to kill my web browsing ability. Most of the time when running bittorrent webpages will timeout. Is there any way I can have calls to my office forwarded through the Internet so it rings to my PC at home?

Why do links in my anchor tags turn the # into %35 and thus break? Any idea why - and (most importantly) how to fix it. (yeah, I know I should scrap this cumbersome system and move to WordPress - it's my plan, but I don't have time at the moment). [more inside]
Examples of news websites that are are independently owned? I'm interested in sites that generate news (as opposed to just commentary), and that are not owned by traditional media outlets (as opposed to sites like Slate, which is owned by Washington Post).
Let's say you've had an experience and written about it. And let's say it's something others on the internet might want to know about. And let's say you have it saved as a simple html doc and would like to get it out there, accessible via Google, etc. And let's say you'd like perfect anonymity. What can you do to get it out there and indexed but not traceable? Free? Anonymous? Publish and forget? Obviously, this is about battling spammers at some point. Advice?

I was going to be traveling to Korea shortly, and wanted to bring along my Mac. I was wondering if it's possible, using my regular iBook G4 with Airport, to access the Internet if the hotel (or somewhere else) has an open wireless network in place. Or are there all sorts of compatability issues? I'm guessing I also need a power/plug adapter (I'm in the U.S.) thanks...
