Catalog spam. I ordered a bed frame online, and was pleased with the result. Since then, however, I've been getting a catalog of some sort or another (Pottery Barn, Anthropologie, Linens & Things, etc) almost every day - sometimes more than one. It's driving me crazy. Is there anything I can do short of changing address?

This has been asked before but the answers I need are a bit more specific. I bought my home (1920s bungalow) here in Sacramento 3 years ago, and the previous owners had DSL - in fact the DSL port in the house is exactly where I need/want my broadband connection to be. So - I just got an Airport Express card for my powerbook and a Airport Extreme basestation: do I want DSL or cablemodem? I use satellite for TV, not cable, and am not going to switch any time soon, so bundles are out. I am not going to run a website and need no static IP. Insanely high speed is not necessary, just something a hell of a lot faster than my current 56k. Prices? Service? Will SBC give me a deal on DSL since the install is already in place?

Does anyone have any suggestions for an all-in-one photo editing/FTP/weblogging software? I know how to do all the steps manually, but am having a very hard time teaching her how to do it all. Wanted features - photo cropping, auto levels, thumbnail creation, ftp, and hopefully some sort of utility to generate weblog posts with image url and popup code. Does that make sense?

Ok, I have a Dell box with Windows XP. I also have two very smart children (ages 11 and 13). I want to figure out a way to disable the internet connection from time to time. For example, child A doesn't clean their room, so I want to disable internet while at work, from (8a-4p). Is there a way I can do this, some software? The connection is DSL.

These people have a domain I want. Are they reputable? Anyone dealt with them, or companies like them? Is it generally safe to send companies like this $50 in order to get the domain I want? Or is it all a scam?

Is there any good solution for multi-url blog software? I've got a bunch of domains, and I want to run different blogs on each of them, but I don't want to have to install, say, a separate copy of Wordpress for each of them (and then have to go update all of them individually when there's an update). They're all located on the same physical server (linux/Apache).
Any ideas?

Can anyone recommend a good internet/phone/cell provider? Last year, my place of employment signed an all-inclusive contract with Norvergence for a T1 line, local & long distance phone and cell phone service. Service and support has been less than satisfactory and today, it has become apparent that they are going out of business. We are hoping to find a similar service with a reliable company. Any recommendations and experiences are appreciated.

How do you value a domain name? More specifically I am a member of a webmaster newsboard that has domain names for sale. When I inquired about a certain domain I was told the owner was looking in the $X,XXX range for it. Yet I don't see how a domain could be valued at that price range when I see sites with full content selling for less than that. Is a domain really that valuable anymore? I don't think it is. Yes a .com is better than a .net or .org or whatever, but to ask for $1,000+ for a domain is just kinda pricey I think when the domain hasn't been doing anything other than pointing to another url.

Networkimpairedfilter; Inspired by this thread http://ask.metafilter.com/mefi/8071 , I would like to make some portion of my bandwidth available to others. My question is not how do I make the internet access available, but how do I prevent someone from getting to my files? My access point is connected to a switch and then to my modem, which is behind a NAT (not sure exactly what that means, but I thought I would throw it in.) My desktop is connected to the switch and while I wouldn’t mind people using bandwidth, I do not want them snooping through my hard drive. While I'm here how do you guys make regular words links?

Which Mac OS X Files let Safari securely connect to sites?
I'd accidentally lost some of my System (my fault) and had to reinstall, etc. to get it back. Looks like everything is working... EXCEPT when I try to connect to https:// sites. gmail, hotmail, whatever.
I have other Macs here, so if anyone knows what frameworks or whatever likely make that work, I can easily copy them over and correct the permissions. But WHICH files? (minimally more inside)

Red means stop....or does it? I'm developing an icon set for a web application, and I'm looking for indicators to mean "not yet started," "in progress," and "completed." My inclination is to go with red, yellow, green, but my experience with traffic lights seems to indicate that green (you haven't started, so go), yellow, and red (you're done, so stop) might be more logical. Anyone have any suggestions on which would be more intuitive?
