Incoming Telephone Notification

When using a Dial Up Internet Service, naturally, I am tying up my telephone. I am seeking a software package (preferably a freeware download) that will notify me of any incoming telephone calls while I am online. I can remember watching a TV ad for such a program, but have not been able to locate this program/service. PS> My Dial Up serivce is no more than a back up for my regular high speed internet. However, as long as I am subscribing to this dial up service, I might as well also use it during the day as a news service, ect.

How do I get past internet monitoring at work?

My company has recently started internet monitoring. I believe they have set up some kind of proxy server. Unfortunately, they have blocked sites that I use for productivity. Is there any way of easily getting around the proxy server. I'm not sure if I'm right, but there must be a setting in Internet Explorer that can route my websites through another server? How do I do this and who do I use. I don't mind paying, but would perfer free. The owner of my company has become big brother and it's unfortunate because now sites can only be "work related" which can be widely (or narrowly defined) I would also like to know how to find out what they are using to do this (for curiosity purposes). Where can I look on my computer to see this. Also, I think they may have set up remote viewing. Is there any way to detect this?

The Talmud & The Internet

The Talmud & The Internet: It occurred to me the other day that collaborative web spaces - blogs with commentary, wiki pages, etc. - might have a distant forebear in the Jewish Talmud (it should be noted, however, that I am not a Jew, nor have I a very good understanding of Jewish scripture). After asking around, I found a link to an article by David Porush and a few mentions of the book linked above (the reviews of which are less than stellar). Are there other scholarly articles or books that might prove helpful in exploring this topic?

Do I need to upgrade my graphics card?

I've recently got into watching sports webcasts but find that the picture quality isn't great. My internet connection is 400Mb/sec so I suspect that the problem lies with my graphics card which is a Mobility Radeon 7500. Is there some way to confirm this before I splash the cash and upgrade it? I'm running on Windows XP and have 512Mb RAM. I'm not sure what else is relevant.

What to do w/ a bitchin' fast internet connection.

My new apartment in New York City came equipped with a built-in ethernet internet connection. So far, I've maxed out at just over 1 meg a second, though that's only happened a few times. Besides downloading media via bittorrent and p2p, what recreational net activities should I take advantage of? What's the best way that I can 'speed test' my top d/l speed? I want dialup access to the internet via my cable modem connection at home, more or less rolling my own ISP...

I have a Mac at home running 10.3.9. I would like to plug a telephone line into the modem port and be able to call in to it while I'm on the road using my laptop. I don't need or want access to the files, I don't want or need to see the Tibook's screen, or control the computer at home. I just want dialup access to the internet via my cable modem connection at home, more or less rolling my own ISP. Is this possible? If not with my Mac, what about one of those AirPorts? I heard some of them have modems but some of them don't, anyone else doing anything like this? [more inside]

Internet radio streaming of full albums etc.

Short and simple. I'm interested in finding out if there are any internet radio stations which broadcast full albums. Alternatively any free/pay services which allow you to listen online to full albums rather than just individual tracks. I'm not at this point interested in buying music just listening to it. Please bear in mind I am in the UK and services such as Rhapsody etc. aren't available here AFAIK. Many thanks.

A more structured wiki?

I am looking to incorporate the mediawiki model into a more structured environment. Specifically, users should be able to add "artist" and "album" entities to a music database, and then the content related to these entities should be wikis. These things cannot just be ordinary mediawiki "articles", because I want to make comparisons on the data that requires differentiating between what kind of data it is. Does anyone know of any project that does anything like this, or have any ideas of how to do it with the least amount of coding possible?
