WiFi repeater or extender?

WiFi Repeater - how feasible is this? I am affiliated with a university that offers free wireless internet access. I live less than .2 miles from the nearest building which broadcasts this signal. I can't connect to this network from home, obviously, but I would like to. Is it possible to access such a network by putting an antenna on my roof? How about by placing a repeater in a friends house closer to the source? What are my options likely to be here? [more inside]

Gullible is not in the dictionary

I'm using FireFox 1.07 for Windows XP. Previously, when I typed "dict [word]" into the address bar, FireFox would take me to the dictionary.com definition for [word]. Now typing in the same command just takes me to the first result of a Google search for "dict [word]," the same as if I typed anything into the address bar. Recently all my Firefox bookmarks disappeared as well. I haven't updated Firefox or changed anything that I know of. What happened, and how do I restore the old functionality?

How do I get past internet monitoring at work?

My company has recently started internet monitoring. I believe they have set up some kind of proxy server. Unfortunately, they have blocked sites that I use for productivity. Is there any way of easily getting around the proxy server. I'm not sure if I'm right, but there must be a setting in Internet Explorer that can route my websites through another server? How do I do this and who do I use. I don't mind paying, but would perfer free. The owner of my company has become big brother and it's unfortunate because now sites can only be "work related" which can be widely (or narrowly defined) I would also like to know how to find out what they are using to do this (for curiosity purposes). Where can I look on my computer to see this. Also, I think they may have set up remote viewing. Is there any way to detect this?
