I'm doing some presentations for parents of kids K-12 grades about the nebulous topic of internet safety and could use some advice/stories/resources from real-world parents to help me make sure this is relevant and useful. [more inside]
After weeks and weeks of making lists for a name for my studio, I saw that it was not available as a .com but was as a .net, and it got me thinking: Is a .net as good as a .com or is does it sound cheap in comparison? Also, how would you rate different tlds in terms of "sounding professional"? [more inside]
My ISP is now telling me if I don't call them about getting an upgrade ASAP, they will "temporarily interrupt my service." I don't want one but think they are going to force me into it. [more inside]

Trying to identify this elaborate custom-tailored performance art/ARG project I read about, possibly on MetaFilter, circa 2007-2010. Basically: you apply for the chance to have this group go to your hometown and stage an elaborate theatrical experience personalized to you, starring all your friends and family, for the purposes of creating a powerful emotional experience. This is obviously a big question to which I don't expect simple or succinct answers. But as I'm probably going to be doing some work soon for some fairly established hi-tech types (the focus of which will be some "disruptive" ecommerce solutions) I feel compelled to ask it. [more inside]
Over the past few years, I've found myself turning into a relative hermit - living alone, going out and about alone, spending time with my family but not really anyone else in 'real life,' preferring the wider range of people and opportunities on the internet for friendship and comradeship. Is this a problem, or am I just overthinking and worrying about nothing? [more inside]

As of this writing, North Korea has had two Internet outages in 48 hours. A lot of people seem to watch when Internet service goes down for countries and companies. But I don't recall anyone saying North Korea's Internet had gone down until within the last couple of days. Has anyone reported North Korea's Internet going down in the past?

Just bought Amazon Fire TV for an antennae television at a house we visit on occasion. What cable internet speed do we need in order to have decent streaming? Hate to spend a lot of monthly money on something seldom used, but know the frustration it will cause if streaming is spotty.

I have a 15 gig iPhone of the previous generation, and the Safari web browser has had some interesting quirks of late. When I've left websites with logins unattended for more than, say, thirty seconds, I automatically get logged out (even when I've clicked the "keep me logged in" box on the login page). More recently, the cache has "forgotten" the URLs for websites I frequent. I've set "never" to the Block Cookies option in settings. What can I do to get Safari to keep me logged in and to cache/remember the sites I visit?

So it looks like hyphens in domain names do mean lower positing in Google’s SERP but does this mean the same for keywords? For example, my site contains the word 'multi media' but I would like to change that to 'multimedia' on every occurance. Is this ok? Will it impact my SEO?
We're located in zip 97035, currently get Comcast and, frankly, it's pretty slow and, worse, unstable. So spotty that I feel like I'm living in the late 90's.
My company just moved into a new space a month ago. It's a beautiful old building in San Francisco right across from Aquatic Park. With the space came a small room this is a spiders nest of old phone cabling and some T1 equipment. The building manager told me to find whoever I wanted to take care of it and they would pay for it. So my question is... who do I hire to come in and rip out the unnecessary stuff and make sure they leave the stuff we need?
I recently bought a new router (Archer AC1750) to fix my crappy home wi-fi. It helped, but the second floor of the house still had some issues. Then my cable company (Time Warner) sent me a new cable modem with built-in wi-fi, rendering my new router superfluous. The new modem is also good, not quite as good as the Archer, and my second floor still has poor signal. I'm wondering, can the Archer be used somehow to improve the second floor signal, in some kind of unholy alliance between it and the Time Warner modem/router?
Is it true that the advertised cable internet speed is just a burst and then drops and is also shared with other users on one node causing slowdowns when its busy? [more inside]
A lot of ink has been spilled on the subject of whether video games are art, but rorgy's recent megapost on Homestuck reminded me that comparatively little has been written on the idea of Internet Art. Such works that leverage the internet as a unique creative medium fascinate me, and I'd love to find more. What are some other works that qualify? [more inside]
So I have this DVD with accompanying copyright information, descriptive notes and disclaimers and I'd like to put it online so others can access it. The last time I did such a thing, I ripped it and converted to FLV and used JW Player. I could do that again but I wonder if that's what people at the end of 2014 would do. Are we in a post-flash world? Could I do something similar in a different format? (Even though I have some experience with this, please "explain like I'm 5.") [more inside]

I'm working on a social media response protocol (similar to the Air Force classic template here), but trying to come up with a pithy Golden Rule along the lines of "If you don't say anything, you can be almost certain that you're not making things worse". But... better. Ideas? [more inside]
I am building a new house and do not currently have access to cable or DSL. I have 4g data on my note 3 here in Australia, using yatango as my service provider. After about 20 minutes of usage of browsing web on my phone, the 4g stops working (the download signal of data stops lighting up and nothing loads) and the only way to fix it is for me to "turn off mobile data" then turn it back on, fixes it every time. Why does it stop working and how can I fix it so I don't have to turn off and then back on mobile data every 20 minutes?
I think it's about time I unplugged myself from Reddit. But where will I get my hobby news/content/funny pictures? I'd like suggestions for replacements for my current subs that: (A) have variable time investment possible, (B) have decent, rotato (or at least not disgusting) comment communities, and (C) where the communication is focused around the topic (e.g. comments on a post) as opposed to the user (e.g. reposting to your personal profile). List of topics inside! [more inside]
I'm underemployed, have so many hobbies and interests that I can't decide which to pursue, and friends who are usually too busy to hang out very often. All of this makes my day-to-day life incredibly dull, so I usually end up online...all day.
