I am moving to Portland OR at the end of the month and it seems that the three cable/internet providers all have really bad reviews. Is one less bad than the other two? . [more inside]

I am on facebook, pinterest and twitter, and I was wondering if random people can just look up my stuff that I have written or even my pictures. I'm not talking about people who are logged in and are following me or my friends. I just mean random strangers. Thanks.
I'm uncertain how to proceed w/maintaining an online friendship and if I should move on or not. Internet drama ensues. [more inside]

I have 4g data on my note 3 here in Australia, using yatango as my service provider. After about 20 minutes of usage of browsing web on my phone, the 4g stops working (the download signal of data stops lighting up and nothing loads) and the only way to fix it is for me to "turn off mobile data" then turn it back on, fixes it every time. Why does it stop working and how can I fix it so I don't have to turn off and then back on mobile data every 20 minutes?
I think it's about time I unplugged myself from Reddit. But where will I get my hobby news/content/funny pictures? I'd like suggestions for replacements for my current subs that: (A) have variable time investment possible, (B) have decent, rotato (or at least not disgusting) comment communities, and (C) where the communication is focused around the topic (e.g. comments on a post) as opposed to the user (e.g. reposting to your personal profile). List of topics inside! [more inside]
I'm underemployed, have so many hobbies and interests that I can't decide which to pursue, and friends who are usually too busy to hang out very often. All of this makes my day-to-day life incredibly dull, so I usually end up online...all day. My room doesn't get cleaned, my laundry doesn't get done, my clients grow unhappy, and sometimes I forget to eat, but at least my brain has something to do. [more inside]

A few days ago I got high-speed internet from Comcast. When I placed the order, I was told I needed to upgrade my router and wireless to new models, specifically a TP-Link Wireless N300 and the Motorola SB6121 Surfboard modem. My internet speed is lower than ever. [more inside]
Wifi is plentiful, but it is also more vulnerable than a wired connection. In the Bay Area, is there a library or other public or semi-public, trustworthy place, that allows users to connect directly to the router with an ethernet cable? Charging a fee is fine.
It's 2014. I should be backing up my thousands of photos in iPhoto online. Please tell me he best options available for long-term storage. Print options would be nice too.

I'm having trouble connecting to the internet or to my cable modem. I just bought a used (Dell, 64-bit) laptop. I've been using a Motorola Surfboard SB1501U cable modem plugged in through ethernet on my old (Acer, 32-bit) laptop. I plugged it into the Dell and it immediately connected to the internet. There was a couple of other unrelated issues though, but there is no factory reset option and I thought I'd start with a clean slate. So, I made an installation disk and reinstalled the OS, W7 for a 64-bit computer. Everything went smoothly. But now I can't connect to the internet, either through the ethernet or the USB and installation disk. [more inside]
I love world music! I'm looking for a stand-alone (no computer) wireless internet-radio music player, but get exasperated with wonky interface/station recall/ menu systems on the ones I've seen. Any suggestions? I need two: one for a gift in the US, one for me (european outlet). Also, speaker recommendations for streaming from a laptop welcome! [more inside]
I'm not referring to saving a page or website to view offline, but viewing/saving the coding of an entire website without manually clicking the view source on every single page. Is this possible? Is there a program?

What books and short fiction successfully incorporate internet communication, specifically web communication, into the narrative? I'm interested in writing a novel or novella that would switch between traditional omniscient third-person narrative and the descents into utter madness that can be found on, for example, Tumblr, and other web forums. The only piece that I can think of that uses forum posts to tell a story is "Candle Cove," but I am sure there must be many more. I'm particularly interested in novels.
I know cell phone providers sell data plans, but my understanding is that these have limited connection speeds - these days many trains offer "free wi-fi" for the passengers (I was even told of a shuttle bus that had wi-fi available). It can't just be standard cell phone data connection right? That would be hopelessly slow if more than a couple of passengers connected. Planes use satellite connections I think. What technology do land based - but moving - wi-fi hotspots use? Thanks
Me, the husband and Supercoolbaby are heading south to live in Portland! We've had TimeWarner and Comcast and do hate them so. So what Internet providers do people recommend for price and decent service in Portland, Maine? If possible we'd like to avoid the big horrible companies. We're an internet TV-only household so no TV or phone service required. Thanks!
I conduct interviews and want the best distribution for them. They are occasionally broadcast on KBOO in Portland. I also have access to the Public Radio Exchange as well as Pacifica's "audioport". With those, I can offer these interviews for rebroadcast through affiliated radio stations throughout the country. [more inside]
I'm based in the UK and will be spending a week somewhere that has no broadband. The reception on most networks seems to be changeable though it's strongest on Vodafone. Is there a 3G/4G wireless router that can take multiple SIM cards or dongles so that I can connect together more than one network and thus maximise my chances of getting connectivity?
My internet (AT&T DSL) got weird a few hours ago this morning, and is still struggling. I went through a long list of stuff with a tech, who is sending out a new modem. Here's what's happening. Certain sites are loading fine, while others just time out to the "The connection has timed out" message. [more inside]
A few friends of mine have bought cheap, giant suitcases from novelty shops and souvenir shops in NYC. Since I'm halfway across the country, I'm looking for something similar that I can buy on the internet. Workable dimensions are around 32 x 25 x 10 inches - really freakin' big. But, amazon and ebay and the like are failing me. Can you help?
Moving to a fairly rural section of Lancaster County (Paradise, PA, to be exact), where cable isn't available. *Sad trombone* I work from home full-time and will need reliable, fast internet. Suggestions, please! BTW, FiOs isn't available here (I checked) and it's been hard to get a solid answer on exactly WHAT internet services are out there, so alternatives are welcome. The last tenants here used a mobile hotspot, which was unreliable and slow, so I want to avoid that. Also want to avoid working from a coffee shop every day.
I've been having a lot of problems with my Comcast cable internet (both performance, and with their service, but this question focuses on performance) over the past few weeks. Is this really caused by a bad cable modem? Many details inside. [more inside]
I'm considering buying a house in rural Vermont where cable and dsl internet are not available, and mobile phone service is spotty. It seems the only option would be satellite internet through a provider such as HughesNet. Would this be a huge mistake? [more inside]
I'm trying to set up internet service at my apartment. AT&T's downstream is abysmally bad for what they charge – 3 mbps for a lousy $30 per month. Comcast is better, but possibly more evil, and there are a lot of confusing legal riders in the contract that make me scared. Help! [more inside]
I'm looking to purchase a router in the U.S. that will work in Russia. What do I need to buy? [more inside]
I'm starting a blog, and I have this hunch that perhaps a service or program exists out there that allows you to: 1) Write, format, and save blog posts, as well as mark them as "ready" to publish, and 2) Automate publishing those ready posts chronologically onto your blog at a fixed rate or alternatively by selecting a publishing date and time for every post marked as ready. The theory being, I could write as many posts as I want on a given day, but schedule and automate their publishing. Does this sort of thing exist? [more inside]
I feel like I'm addicted to the Internet. The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is go on my smartphone and Reddit for at least half an hour. I live at home and spend most of my day on the computer listening to music and surfing the web into the early hours of the morning. [more inside]

I'm trying to rebuild a now defunct internet radio station called "Technicolor Web Of Sound". One of the great things about TWOS was that in addition to playing psychedelic music from the late 60s was that it also played advertisements and concert promotions from that era: http://web.archive.org/web/20110926052525/http://www.techwebsound.com/playlist.cfm?promos=yes. These audio clips made the station sound very authentic. However, finding these audio clips is proving difficult. Does anyone know where I might start to track down these clips? [more inside]
