I love tumblr, but there are a few specific tumblrblogs I need to stop reading to keep my own sanity. I compulsively read a certain set of blogs dozens of times per day. I have unfollowed them, but keep compulsively going directly to their blogs to read them. (This question is one part about software and one part human relations)

15 years ago, as a teenager, I wrote a fanfic about a sexual encounter and published it under my real name. One of the archives with this story has resurfaced on a new server,
www.50megs.com, unbeknownst to the original owner of the archive. She's tried to have the page removed but to no avail; I've also been in touch with the new host of the site but have been told to just contact the owner - who no longer really owns it. What can I/we do to get this page down?

Mom is using the internet for the first time on an old, old laptop with Windows XP, and using it for email and also streaming movies (the pirated kind) on sites like Megavideo. Anything to help her avoid scams and malware? Hoping for software/Firefox extensions as well as maybe a guide for first-time internet users.

I work for a smallish Phone/TV/Internet company. We believe our network is really the best available, and our service is great, but customers are leaving us at a higher rate than we would like. (not "We're doomed!" levels, but still more than we would like). We are trying to think of "outside the box" ideas to retain and potentially add customers.

A past employer started a blog. Several previous employees have started their own sub-blogs and one made a comment about me, using my full name. It wasn't necessarily a negative comment, but he was resentful of me supposedly forcing him to do something which was part of his job. I wasn't the person responsible for making him do anything, so the statement is not true.
I'm puzzled because I had a very friendly, cordial relationship with this person, but whatever. I'm wondering how I should handle asking the company to remove the statement. I'm now working in a different field and I'm not sure how this statement about me will affect future customers.
TIA.

Hypothetically, let's say that an employee from CompanyX, a rather large large semi-techie company, sent something they shouldn't have to a competitor. The employee didn't use their work email address (which the company can search) but they did use their company computer at work and something like their Yahoo account.

Can some of you amazing Internet security people explain to me how cautious I need to be about what I do online? Is there a way to explore ideas online that are ideas you'd normally keep private? Or -- do I perhaps not need to worry about this, given the way opposition research and government confirmations actually work?
