My daughter's chromebook from school needs to connect to wi-fi. We have wi-fi at home. When I open up my home computer, I never need to put in a password....I just click onto my internet icon. By the way, I have netgear for my wi-fi. [more inside]
A few days ago I got high-speed internet from Comcast. When I placed the order, I was told I needed to upgrade my router and wireless to new models, specifically a TP-Link Wireless N300 and the Motorola SB6121 Surfboard modem. My internet speed is lower than ever. [more inside]
Wifi is plentiful, but it is also more vulnerable than a wired connection. In the Bay Area, is there a library or other public or semi-public, trustworthy place, that allows users to connect directly to the router with an ethernet cable? Charging a fee is fine.
My Linksys WRT54G router keeps losing internet connectivity, even though the wireless seems to be fine. Halp? [more inside]
I love world music! I'm looking for a stand-alone (no computer) wireless internet-radio music player, but get exasperated with wonky interface/station recall/ menu systems on the ones I've seen. Any suggestions? I need two: one for a gift in the US, one for me (european outlet). Also, speaker recommendations for streaming from a laptop welcome! [more inside]

I live in the one-bedroom basement apartment of a house (so there are 2 total apartments in the building). About a week ago, my soon-to-be new neighbor contacted me, said he was moving in with friends upstairs, and let me know Comcast had said they could only have one account per address (I already have Comcast wireless internet) and asked if they could share with me, offering to split the cost. He was also potentially interested in upgrading to a faster connection. I said we could chat about it after he moved in, which they have done (I've been letting them use my account the past few days). There are four people living in the apartment upstairs. Now that I've thought about it, I think splitting the cost two ways when there will be five people using it is unfair. I have one of two apartments, but it's not like I will be using half the internet. Is there something I'm not considering? How are these costs usually split when you share with neighbors? Should we be splitting it 5 ways, 2 ways, or something in between? (I also want to ask if they want to just take over the account and have me reimburse them my share, since I am moving in a few months--that's an ok thing to ask, right?)

I just moved into my first multistory home. Time Warner Cable installed their wifi modem on our second floor, and we have a very weak wifi signal in our (finished) basement. I'd like to know how to boost our wireless signal with minimal sacrifice of bandwidth/speed, and without having to have TWC come in again and move our modem to the first floor. Details within. Is there a somewhat simple solution to this problem? We recently installed new wireless Internet at home but my laptop (older Toshiba Satellite) refuses to connect to the net. It will automatically find our network and connect to it, but doesn't go that step further to actually connect to the Internet. This only happens with the wireless at home - it works fine with other networks I've tried out. Is my computer just not recognizing the new modem?
My laptop (and only my laptop) intermittently fails to see my wi-fi network. Please help me solve the problem. [more inside]

Are there any good & reliable INTERNET SIGNAL WIRELESS BOOSTERS on the market? I can only receive a very weak signal for my computer on the second floor. Is 200 MB enough? I got an Ipod Touch for my birthday. It does have WiFi access but I don't want to have to run into a cafe every time I need to look something up online. So I'm in the market for a mobile WiFi hotspot and a wireless data plan. The cheapest plans available -- and I'm all about the cheap -- typically offer you c. 200 MB a month. [more inside]

Does anyone have experience with Rover 4G internet in the Los Angeles (near UCLA campus) and Orange County (specifically the 92842 region) areas? I can't be bound to a contract at the moment, so this seems to be the next best alternative. I've checked the coverage maps and there are towers nearby with full coverage of the areas that I will be in. But that doesn't mean much in real world tests, so I'd like to know what your download/upload speeds are at various times of the day. And have they ever sent you a warning letter for always being connected. Thanks.
