I'm twenty-five, have a master's degree, speak French fluently, and have studied/interned/volunteered in the States, Europe, and Middle East, but am at a loss as to how to parlay all that into an international career. Living in NYC, but would move back abroad in a heartbeat for the right job.

International banking filter: I'm moving to Stockholm from Seattle in about a month. What's the best way to set up an account in Swedish krona when the person supporting me will be giving me money in US dollars? Also, what is the cheapest and fastest way to transfer money from US accounts in USD to the Swedish (or international?) SEK account?

So I think I'm getting ripped off. Or, at the very least, the victim of an international company's careless mistake.
I purchased $192 worth of camera film (Polaroid) over a year ago in October 2009 from an Austrian photography company. Apparently, I was never charged for it and a representative claiming to be from the company emailed me
last month (around mid Feb.) informing me of this open payment and that I need to pay this amount. I have no recollection of this order, seeing as I'm a fairly routine customer and this was placed over a year ago. I ignored the first email back in February and they've now sent me another email requesting the $192 payment or threatening to take this to a debt collection agency. I don't think I even have $192 to my name - what should I do??

What are some small differences you've noticed about the US?
Examples:
My Japanese friend says that in Japan, large buildings have multiple public entrance/exits.
My Dutch friend says that in the Netherlands, women shower in the gym showers.
Specifically, I'm interested in things that could imply some theory (elaborate or not) of US culture, of some region of the US.

I am US citizen, and the sole proprietor of a business offering software development and consulting services -- in other words, I'm a freelancer. However, I'm a bit of a nomad at the moment, doing a lot of international travel for pleasure, and am gradually picking up clients from first-world nations (UK, Canada, NZ, Australia). I'm curious about the legality (at a broad level, you are not my lawyer) of me working on my freelance tasks as I move around on non-work visas, especially when I may find myself in a country where I currently have an active client.

Two years ago the American United Steelworkers and the British UNITE merged to form what was then referred to as a transcontinental "super union". I can find all sorts of articles before and just after this occurrence, but very little follow up. This isn't particularly surprising: Labor news in the U.S. barely gets any coverage. But does anyone know how the merger turned out?
