RAID HBA help sought: Server has its internal drives RAID'ed by an internal RAID card. I am trying to add another SCSI HBA card so I can hook up a nifty external SCSI-to-SATA RAID DAS tower. Problem is, however I install the new HBA, it "hides" the existing internal RAID card, meaning that the server doesn't find its own internal drives and can't boot. What to do? [more inside]

Anyone have an idea where to find information on rebuilding old Shimano 3-speed hubs from the 1970s? They were on lowcost (Sears, Murray, Huffy) bikes, and often they are the only part of the bike that has not rusted into oblivion. [more inside]

The DVD writer in my laptop seems to be dying. Although it can still read pre-written DVDs and CDs, it has problems reading home-burnt DVDs.
Am I right in thinking that if I buy an external (USB) DVD writer, I can open the enclosure, swap over the mechanisms and effectively end up with:
1. A new writer installed in my laptop, and
2. A slightly dodgy external DVD reader?

I will soon be put in charge of putting together a secure website for my company. It won't be terribly complex (I think), and it doesn't have to look terribly pretty, but as a relative newbie to something like this, I need some advice as to what software to use. [more inside]

I thought I was a Mac geek, but I'm beginning to think I'm not. Can one take an Intel iMac, plug in an external monitor and TOTALLY DISABLE the internal screen? I'm beginning to think it's not possible.

So, I got a new 320GB internal ATA hard drive, hooked it up as a slave to my 80GB hard drive, and put all my video, music, and photos on the new 320GB drive. Then, problems arise: when I'm downloading things onto the new drive (via BitTorrent), the computer stutters and is generally slow. Also, when opening and saving photos (~300MB TIFFs) in Photoshop, it takes an eternity. Is there a better way to configure my system on the hard drives? [more inside]

I am trying to install a second internal hard drive (180 gig) to my Power mac G4. I had very little trouble initially, and stupidly (please be gentle) moved much of my data over to the new drive immediately without rebooting and making sure everything would work after a restart. On restart, the dreaded missing harddrive question mark icon flashed... [more inside]

I am thinking of buying an internal DVD burner for my PC. A DVD-RW unit costs about 70% of what a DVD+RW one does. I understand that the +R format is supposed to be "better", but less compatible than the -R one. Which should I get? [more inside]
