Help me save my new office from its pea soup walls

I'm moving to a new office at work, from a rat-maze cubicle-farm cube in a room with very tall ceilings and surrounded by windows to an office with a door in the basement. I don't know why, but the occupants of the suite of offices painted all of their walls green. I strongly dislike the particular shade of green chosen, but there's no money to repaint right now. What can I do to make the office more palatable for me? [more inside]

Modern alternative to fake flowers?

What are some of the things you can use in small and/or large vases that are not as short-lived as fresh flowers and not as lame as fake flowers? I should probably add that I am not crafty (shoppable links preferred to DIY ideas), I hate cacti, and I love bright colors.

Chalkboard-painting a stainless steel refrigerator: possible?

Can I paint my stainless steel fridge with chalkboard paint? I've found lots of tutorials on how to do it with a regular white fridge (whatever those are made of) but nothing on stainless. Should I try to sand it? Do I need primer? Please advise. [more inside]

How would you make a scaled plan of photo/art frames and the wall to organize a plan of attack for drilling/mounting?

I've got a ton of picture frames big and small that I want to hang in my living room all at once on one big wall and want to plan out their layout before drilling. Is Sketchup a good tool to use? Or what/how would you do a scaled plan of the frames and the wall to lay them out in a certain order? Tetris for mounting pictures.

What should go in this part of my house?

What do I do with this space in my living room? It's perfect for the Christmas tree, but for the other 11 months of the year, it's just empty, and needs something in it. Here's another view, and as much of the whole room as I can get in 1 photo. [more inside]

Searching for wall mounted bookshelves.

Searching for the perfect, wall mounted bookshelves: As I live in San Francisco, I'd like some books shelves that are adjustable and readily anchored to the wall. The Treku Bookcase from DWR is perfect, but (as with much from DWR) a bit too expensive. Any other suggestions? [more inside]
