I want to go about finding entertaining, engaging, intelligent things I can read about subjects I know nothing about. Ideally, I want a source of these things which will reliably send me off in directions I'm completely unfamiliar with, rather than just new sources which cover individual specific subjects. But it has to be enjoyable, even somewhat mindless reading – think Cracked or Buzzfeed. Does anything like this exist? Are there good places online for me to stimulate myself when I'm in that mindless time-killing mood?
Are there any blogs that scour online job boards and just post the cool interesting or unique jobs? [more inside]
An earlier poster mentioned this attitude in a thread on boredom and it prompted me finally to post a question that's been simmering a while. I'm super-boring, but not bored -- it doesn't bother me when I'm on my own, but I'm starting to get a complex about it, vis a vis other people. Help me to have any interest, any interest at all! (Or to feel better about not having any.) Novel inside. [more inside]
I watched Nina Conti: A Ventriloquist's Story - Her Master's Voice yesterday and it was so amazing I forgot how long it's been since I saw a really good documentary. I've watched everything Herzog has done in the past 6-7, Being Elmo, Carl Sagan's Cosmos, the 7 Up films and Jarvis Cocker's Outsider Art series. What are your favourite documentary films/series? (except nature docs? I can never get into them). I'm happy to watch films from any english-speaking country - but will also give it a go if they're subtitled.

I've done a google search and can't seem to find this specific site I'm looking for. It was a black site, which filled the screen with decent sized flickr photos that you could click on and find photos related to that one. Not sure what the algorithm was, but I seem to recall the site ending with multiple r's. http://*rrr.com ? You may have had the option to search for tags but I can't recall. [more inside]
Spending a month in the UK during winter, our first time there. Need your ideas and recommendations on interesting things to see/do! [more inside]
Long shot question: I am trying to remember a news/interesting stuff website. The content has pictures, linked essays, sometimes both. The essays are along the lines of Longform.org. The design is yellow and black ... of this, I am sure. The "about" states that it is curated by one woman, please donate. I think the logo has a brain in it, but don't let that throw you off.
Looking for blogs that are thought-provoking, light-hearted, and short-winded. Examples: Futility Closet, Colossal, Said the Gramophone. No linkblogs. Nothing cynical/polemical. Few posts per day. I prefer distinct focuses and subjects to meandering, text and thoughts to images and video (though media supported by text is fine if the media's brief enough). I like learning new things, but again, I want short, light reads – posts I can read in two minutes tops.

What are your favorite stories / essays / etc. from the New York Times? I recently started reading the Sunday NYTimes and love a lot of the stories I find within, especially within the magazine. I feel like I have just discovered a treasure trove of interesting reading but have no idea where to start. I am not interested in any specific topic. I just like reading interesting stuff. Hi! I will be travelling to BC for one week in early September (3rd-10th) and will be driving from Vancouver to Kelowna and back (leaving Sunday, coming back Wednesday). Can anyone recommend any places of interest to stop at along the way? A place for a bite to eat, or an interesting store/museum/attraction etc... Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance!
