With the caveat that I know 'shitting where I eat' is a bad idea, I'd like to let a coworker know I'm interested in him. Asking him out isn't an option too, because I'm pretty shy and would probably blush and flub anything that's supposed to be casual. How do I do this? We have zero interaction. [more inside]

I am unsure of how to handle social interactions. For a few years now (I am 22) I have had trouble with social interactions of almost any kind. I can do a decent job of forcing myself to make conversation whether it is small talk or a more in depth discussion. I tend to do pretty well in social situations and am capable of maintaining a conversation. The problem is that I do not have a natural inclination to talk to others. [more inside]

I'm currently in therapy and unsure of whether I should use my insurance for it (thus saving money, but raising the possibility that I may be denied insurance later for a "pre-existing condition") or whether I should pay out-of-pocket (losing money, but averting the risk of a potential insurance hassle down the road). Hi! I'm learning Spanish at the moment, using podcasts and LiveMocha, mostly. I try to speak it as much as possible when doing the LiveMocha exercises, listening to the podcast conversations, etc, but I realise that what's missing is real live conversation with others. [more inside]

What professions might give that stimulus, that aren't predominately negative (i.e. inbound customer service calls, police work, or criminal defense lawyering)?

On city sidewalks, when strangers pass each other, why do they sniffle? Walking toward each other, we size each other up at a distance of 25 ft, then avert eyes, then 10 ft, then avert eyes and as we pass *sniffle* or quick intake of air through the nose that makes a sound.
What does this mean? It seems wholly subconscious. Are we tracking a scent? Are they sticking their nose in the air in an aristocratic air of disapproval?
I've noticed this phenomenon, so I consciously avert my sniffling because I don't even know why it happens, or what it means. But now I hear it from passers-by all the time. It's definitely not allergies; it seems very focused.
