I'm trying to figure out a way to have a car that I own insured and driven primarily by my parents. I can't transfer the title, as there's still a lien and I will be making payments. However, my parents need a car urgently, so I need to get them to a good, insured state with a reliable automobile. Does anyone have experience with this?
It's possible to get insurance for strange things: for example, Lloyd's of London once insured Troy Polamalu's hair for $1 millon. How can I get some esoteric insurance of my own? For details... [more inside]
We live in Mass and my wife got into a car accident the other day while I was out of town. How can I convince the insurance company it was not her fault? [more inside]
We had our car stolen a couple of weeks ago. The insurance company actually worked pretty quickly and we agreed a settlement amount with them and they have paid out. Now been informed by the Police that the car has been found. It looks like it's in pretty good nick apart from a couple of broken windows. Would we be able to buy the car back from the insurance company? How much if any discount should I expect? Problems in the future? Anyone got any experience of buying their car back from their insurance company?
So I was in a motorcycle accident a month and a half ago when an inattentive driver caused me to get into a single-vehicle accident. Because that driver did not stop, my insurance company covered me under uninsured motorist coverage. The company, Progressive, has been great about everything so far, but now they want to cover the "pain and suffering" portion of the claim. I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to proceed and would appreciate guidance from people who have been through this sort of thing. [more inside]
I am looking for a dental plan I can enroll in. My employer does not provide dental insurance. I live in Massachusetts. [more inside]

What is in place to stop health insurance companies from simply NOT doing things they are contracted to do (i.e.: process and pay for prescriptions. Pay doctors etc.). [more inside]
I'm a single woman in her early 40's, unemployed (mostly), looking to purchase health insurance, and requesting advice from the hivemind on how much I should have, of what type. [more inside]

I don't have insurance and I seem to have collected a kidney stone. Already seen a doctor, but what more should I do? [more inside]
I'm self employed. I need health insurance. My main concern is a random ER visit that will put me in debt for the rest of my life, so I told my wife not to worry about deductible prices, since I only need to go in once every few years anyway. She found something with a $4,000 deductible. And that was like $80/mo. The other ones were even more expensive. Is this price range right? Is this the only way to protect myself from crippling debt?
Can you recommend companies for travel insurance? (For UK resident) [more inside]
My front tooth, already decaying, has actually cracked down the middle. I know, should've taken care of it earlier blah blah blah but I'm taking care of it now and need to know my options. I am 24, uninsured and have very little in the way of expendable money. [more inside]
People with pet insurance on their cats. Have the benefits ever outweighed the costs? It seems very expensive to me. I've not had it before as it wasn't around when I got dear old Dot. Bearing in mind these are fit 3 yo cats with no pre-existing conditions who were well cared for in previous home and will be living indoors only. The only people who have had good use out of their pet insurance who I know are lady with cat who was in a road accident and had lots of ops and MRIs and lady with 2 rescue dogs who have had joint and allergy problems. My partner and I have an income disparity. We try to split costs 50/50. However, I now have the option to insure her as a dependent, but she can't afford to pay her half of the premium. [more inside]
My sixteen-year-old son got his license recently, and after a month (during which time he did not drive) we insured him for a month as we were going to be out of town and he needed the car. When we called our insurance company to remove him from our policy, we were told that the only way the company would uninsure him is if he turned in his license to the DMV. We only have one vehicle, and he won't drive. He's not the kid who is going to sneak off in the car, either. So can the insurance company just drop us or otherwise hose us over? [more inside]
My partner and I are considering going into couples counselling. The insurance plan we share does not cover this type of counselling "except when rendered in connection with services provided for a treatable mental disorder." One of us is in treatment for a mental disorder, so this seems worth investigating. Can you offer us any experience or advice about dealing with therapists and/or insurance companies in this situation? [more inside]
Our current homeowners policy is being changed because the company no longer does business in our state. Our agent has come up with another company that is not a national company. It only underwrites in several states on the east coast. I looked up their financials and they seem to be good but I’m no expert. It also is rated with Demotech which I understand to a paid rating company. [more inside]
I have insurance coverage from Geico for my car in IL. Am I covered while driving my dad's car in CA? [more inside]
I do not have adequate health insurance, am self-employed, and any injury that might prevent me from working steadily would be economically problematic (ok, disastrous). I also would like to begin riding my bicycle again as a form of exercise and enjoyment. Would the health benefits of biking outweigh the risk of injury? I would be primarily riding on designated bike trails, not public roads. I'm somewhat paranoid because a friend (with good insurance, fortunately) had a mishap on a bike trail that required surgery. I don't know how common such mishaps are. What would you do in my situation?
I am an ABD grad student dealing with significant situational depression. My therapist has recommended I seek out a prescription for an SSRI (antidepressant). My insurance situation is a bit complex -- I'm on the university's faculty EPO plan, but don't have a primary care physician relationship established. Trying to sort out the right order of operations for making sure I get coverage, and get timely access to care. [more inside]
I live in a apartment building with a floor of parking inside the building. Two days ago, a neighbor who was parking her car next to mine dented and scratched the rear of my car. The damage is fairly minimal but will require some work. She was very apologetic about the situation and left me a voicemail stating that she had hit my car and that would should sync up to exchange insurance information. Later in the day, we talked and she suggested the we exchange a copy of each others insurance card. In this situation, is it ok to give her a copy of my entire insurance card? Is there any information on this I should not be sharing? For reference, my insurance is GEICO.

My wife and I are both graduate students living on about $30k a year in southeastern Pennsylvania. We're about to turn 26 and will be losing our health insurance coverage through our parents. Does the state of Pennsylvania or the government offer any sort of subsidies or vouchers to help us purchase our own insurance? [more inside]
I'm evaluating my insurance coverage, and I'm confused a bit on auto insurance liability. It seems like a typical liability policy is $100k per person for bodily injury. From the tales of medical bills I've heard, it seems like a bad accident could pretty easily cause bills far exceeding that. Even if I increase it to $300k or $500k, if the actual costs are higher than that, it could pretty easily wipe out all my assets. What really happens in accident cases like that? Do they generally just settle for the insurance limits? [more inside]
I screwed up. I bought a policy through Humana that is evidently a replacement policy for Medicare for my father. I bought it in January of this year from my parent's old insurance guy. Now my dad is in a Veteran's Care Center and needs his Medicare back, they don't want this new supplemental. If I just cancel the Humana policy will his Medicare just pop back into existence? I've been taking ADD meds for years with the same psychiatrist, but lost my insurance last summer and had to stop taking them. Now I have insurance again and scheduled an appointment with my doctor today, but I'm worried he'll say that I'm doing just fine without the pills. However, I'm also afraid of looking too desperate if I tell him how much I want them! Can I tell him everything without sounding like I'm a junkie? Details follow. [more inside]

My wife's mom is a widow of advancing age. She lives alone in Eastern Europe, in a country with universal health care. (More or less... thanks, austerity!) As she is getting older, we're starting to worry about her living over there, both because of quality of care and because the day that she's no longer suited to live by herself seems approaching. We live in the US and would like to bring her over here permanently. Putting aside immigration questions, how do we get health insurance for her? [more inside]

My husband got a new job and it looks like his health insurance will be better and cheaper for us than what we have through my employer. Problem is, my office is tiny and if we drop off our insurance, only one person in the office will remain on the group plan and a group of one is not eligible for a group plan. If we drop off the plan, I want to ensure she doesn't get screwed over. Can you help me figure out what questions she and I need to ask the owners and our insurance broker and/or come up with creative solutions to pose to the owners of the company? (I realize that this is really the coworker's issue but we're a very tight-knit office and my coworker wants this help.) [more inside]
Seeking insurance broker recommendations for a new family in NYC. Co-op, Auto, and now with progeny, Life. Obviously want a person/office that we can trust, and will look out for our interests in the long haul. We live in Queens, and work in Manhattan. Bonus question: are any brokers fee-based, or do all work on commission-type arrangements?
I'm in the United States and will be working for myself for the first time. This is exciting, but I have a pre-existing health condition, ADHD, and I take medication daily. Will this still be covered if I go on my own health plan or will this be out of pocket? I'm male, non-smoker, mid-20s with no other pre-existing conditions. The whole new health care initiative is confusing, I was under the impression that this sort of thing is now covered.
The situation: My work-related insurance coverage for my daughter ends May 1. She has found a lump, which the docs want to watch for 6 months and then decide about a biopsy. She is 22 and our first thought, before this news, was to allow her to be uninsured through the Summer. [more inside]
Short version: Outpatient facility acknowledges they owe me money but has not paid up. Their eternal answer is "The check will go out Thursday. More details inside if you want them. [more inside]
My boyfriend and I bought a house together last April, which so far has proven to be pretty good idea. Along with the bazillion other really expensive things involved in buying a house, we purchased both homeowner's insurance and a home warranty shortly before the close of escrow. I might have been misunderstanding the legalities of everything, but I remember somehow arriving at the belief that both homeowner's insurance and a home warranty were required for the first year; however, renewing the warranty was optional. I was in an minor accident in the U.S. last September (broke my foot). At the time, my workplace travel insurance seemed to have covered everything just fine -- I went to the clinic, gave them my paperwork, they made some calls, said I was covered and I didn't even need to provide a credit card. Just today, I got a call telling me I owe the clinic $500. Do I care? [more inside]
