What to do on the periphery of an automobile collision?

Yesterday I was involved in the first automobile collision I have ever been involved in, and am unsure what the best way to proceed is. The pickup truck behind me was rear-ended on the interstate, resulting in it being pushed into my own vehicle. My car is practically undamaged, and I don't think I want to go through the process of filing a claim. Is this a bad idea? More details inside. [more inside]

Can I register and insure the car in both states so that he can drive it legally in Michigan?

Help me check my health insurance math!

After being recommended multiple therapists and not a single one accepting insurance, I've determined that the only financially advantageous avenue to pay for therapy is to switch to a high deductible insurance plan with a HSA in order to lower my premiums and maximize my tax situation. Contemptible insurance reimbursement for out-of-network psychotherapy.

The BlueCross BlueShield plan I've had for a few years "allows" only $78 of the $180 that my out-of-network therapist charges. Other companies can't/won't tell me what their allowed amount would be. Does your plan "allow" more than mine does? I just don't understand how they can say that the "reasonable, usual and customary charge" for a therapy appointment with a Ph.D. therapist is $78, because that's just ridiculous. Am I missing something here? Or is this just the insurance companies being $&%#?!*@.

Not at fault - make a claim?

I am in California. Yesterday while stopped at a red light I was hit from behind. The visible damage on both cars is minimal and no one was hurt, but it was still a jarring crash. The person who hit me is insured but does not want me to make a claim and has offered to pay for my inspection and repairs out of pocket. Is there any reason that I should not make a claim in this situation? [more inside]

Car Insurance When Leaving the Country

My wife and I are moving to another country for 9 months. We're planning on selling both of our cars. As far as insurance goes, if we cancel it when we sell the cars, will there be some kind of penalty when we come back? If so, is there some way to suspend it for nine months? We're planning on buying cars when we get back.

Home car salvage: "Totalled" old car, liability only insurance.

I was in an accident in a common mid-90s sports car. Summary: Body work, broken front axle. Because of the age and damage, the insurance will likely declare the car "totaled". My insurance will likely have to pay for repairs to the other car involved. I have liability only insurance, so they're not going to pay me anything regardless. No one was injured. Does my insurance need to care about my car, if it is liability only insurance, besides assessing for "fault"? One of my family members would like to repair the car. Assuming (he has done this kind of thing before, parts are plentiful, and time is not an issue) that he can make it safely drivable again, what do I need to do to make it legally drivable again? Is there anything I can do now to make it easier to get the car on the road in the future? I'm in northern Virginia.

Gotta prove we're married .. but license copy is delayed

I need to demonstrate our married status to an insurance company, sooner rather than later. Can't find our marriage license; I ordered a copy from the issuing authority, but it will take a couple of weeks. The insurance company says 'Send any other documents that show you're married,' and they'll make a decision based on those. I'm thinking IRS correspondence, mortgage papers, old insurance policy ... any other ideas?

Best health insurance plan for shuttling green card holder?

If someone is a 65+ recent green card holder with only 3 years work experience in the US and who hasn't lived continuously in the US for 5 years (but has visited every year for several months for a decade), they don't qualify for free or even paid Medicare. What is the best health insurance plan for them if they spend 5-7 months in the US, and the rest in their home country in Asia? Are they best off with an Obamacare plan, or some kind of special immigrant health insurance, or what? Thanks.

Help me find a house inspector in Phoenix

Anyone have recommendations on a house inspector/inspection company in Phoenix? Currently the house we are buying has had a "relocation property inspection" done by a relocation company (seller is moving away and his company is relocating him along with providing this report). I think we probably need to get a full inspection done, but would like some referrals if anyone has any. Or anyone have any opinions on if another inspection should be necessary? My relator says his inspection guy is $375 and said that in this situation, it maybe worth it to just save the $375 but it was up to me. Thanks!

Spouse's insurance not deducted from paycheck for over 6 months....

Apparently my payroll hasn't been deducting my spouse's insurance premium from my paycheck since when my insurance kicked in starting in April. I didn't realize this in the flurry of deductions and taxes from my paycheck. When I started, I asked my boss what the insurance benefit is at my work. She said it was 100% covered for me by the company but that I was in charge for paying for my spouse, which I'm totally fine with but thought it would automatically come out of my paycheck. New York City joint car ownership for a complete newbie

My unmarried partner and I live in Queens. He had a car when we moved in together, and the title, registration, and insurance have always been entirely in his name - I didn't even drive it. How liable am I for somebody else's crash?

This is hypothetical. I have allowed somebody to drive my car (in British Columbia, Canada) who I know does not have valid driver's license. She has a crash in which somebody else is badly hurt.
