Shopping for new home and auto insurance

I'm working with an independent agent to purchase home and auto insurance. The agent has come back with a quote from Vermont Mutual, a company I'm not personally familiar with. Other than searching NAIC and AM Best, what are best practices for vetting an insurer? [more inside]

Tips and Traps: Supplemental Long Term Disability Insurance?

I have some long-term disability insurance through my employer. I'm thinking I'd like to supplement this with some additional LTD insurance I buy on my own. I have a couple of quotes from highly rated insurers through a broker I like. What should I be looking for when comparing these quotes? [more inside]

Costco insurance--Auto and renter's policies

A few weeks ago, I asked whether I should join Costco, and on your recommendation, I did (and am quite happy). Several people mentioned the Costco-branded insurance (underwritten by Ameriprise). Are there other carriers we should consider? [more inside]

Taking action about a dangerous road/intersection

Pick up medical records on changing providers?

I recently changed jobs--and health insurance providers. As a result I need to change dentists (and possibly GPs). I am in good health--should I bother collecting my dental/medical records and giving them to the new doctors? I am entitled to them under HIPAA, right? [more inside]

Need insurance advice.

Renter's insurance. How much does one get, and how do appraisals work? Asking on the higher end of things, broadly speaking. [more inside]
